ady Darby and her new husband, Sebastion Gage, return to London but she encounters the past she had hoped to put behind her when body snatchers are suspected of a murder of a young boy. Called burkers, the term burkers evolved from the legacy of Burke and Hare, two Edinburgh resurrectionists who smothered victims and sold the bodies to medical schools. The London victims are young men lived on the streets. Than a young noble in Mayfair is murdered and Kiera and Gage are asked to find the killer. Is this a burker killing or is someone targeting the wealthy young heirs hoping to blame the burkers?

Than a blackmail letter arrives threatening to unveil details her former life. Kiera fears the worst as rumors about her former life arise. What has her former husband written about her and how will it affect the lives of Kiera, Gage and their unborn baby? Surprisingly, an enraged Lord Gage, defends the couple.

There are many twists and turns as the couple work to find who is committing the murders. Fascinating, too, is the deep connection between Kiera and Gage which intensifies as gossip and pressure increases. The author uses Bree and Anderley, their servants, and several other characters in the investigation. Finally, the writing and the plot are linked beautifully to the historical period. So well done.
