From my high school history teacher husband: "the author does a good job of describing the lack of preparedness and coordination of British and American troops in North Africa during WWII. If you like reading about troop movements & specific info about battles, if you like military tactics, you will like this book. It was very informative, and I learned a lot from reading it."

Great book... excellent read with incredible insights to the North African campaign. It is no wonder that it won a Pulitzer.

One of three very thick volumes. I read the first 120 pages, which was enough to get the troops ashore in Morocco and Algeria, but then it got REALLY confusing. This author doesn't skip many details, including where the commanding admiral had dinner after meeting with Roosevelt. Sounds like there really was quite a fog of war and not necessarily American victories, at first.

The author received the Pulitzer Prize for History for this book. A number of historians maintain he should have also received the Pulitzer for the second volume in this series.

I've read all three of the volumes and enjoyed each.
