I was not as pleased with this one as I was with 'Psychopath'. It seemed to run a little slower or something. Perhaps it was all the problems the hero himself has ?/?. But after you finish the book it all kind of makes sense. As a last thought, though I will try another and see how that one goes.

Creepy bad guy. Loved it.
Helpful Score: 2
This is a typical Ablow, with a complex and creative bad guy and a heart-wrenching peek into Clevenger's relationship with his son Billy.
I love this series - gritty and clean.

If you've never read this author, give him a try. If you're familiar with Frank Clevenger, this is another good story. Poor Frank is trying to stop a serial killer, get sober for good, and be a parent to an adopted son.
Helpful Score: 1
Even though you know who the killer is from page 1 you just can't put this one down! very good!!

Keith Ablow's latest in the Clevenger series. Perfectly believable, educational, and wildly suspenseful.

West Crosse is a genius at creating spaces uniquely fitting the people who will inhabit them. The catch: he works under a shroud of secrecy, charges his clients a fortune, and then sometimes, in the most skillful and horrifying ways, he kills them.
Helpful Score: 1
West Crosse is beyond insane. He is an architect who designs homes based on what kind of family you should have not what you do have even to the extent of murdering someone to make the dynamics work as he sees it. He has murdered seven people so far and FBI psychiatrist Dr. Clevenger is investigating each death and searching for clues as to why they were murdered and who could have done it.
Dr. Clevenger has many personal issues going on at the same time he is hunting this serial killer. His adopted son is arrested on drug and battery charges. Dr. Clevenger himself is an alcholic on the wagon with major girlfriend issues.
This is a very suspenseful and well written psychological mystery that grabs you from page one and just doesn't let go. I literally couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. Keith Ablow is a fantastic author.

The author is a forensic psychologist who weaves a very original suspense novel that is hard to put down.
Another good Frank Clevenger tale, though not my favorite. Worth the read though.
Ablow is new to me but has a very good book.
good story about a murderer - fast read
Great book! Very suspenseful.
6th in series. Complex story, but probably my least favorite book in this series so far.
The Frank Clevenger books are always worth a read and this one does not dissapoint. I've enjoyed them all and will be ready for the next one.
Ablow's Frank Clevenger series began with an appearance by this forensic psychologist back in 1998 in Denial. In every subsequent book, we get a great thriller story interspersed with Clevenger's own personal trials, and THE ARCHITECT is no different.
The main storyline of this book, that of an architect who believes he's doing God's work by reshaping the lives of the people he builds houses for, is definitely overshadowed by the story of Clevenger himself. His own battle with alcoholism (reminiscent of that of Lawrence Block's Matthew Scudder), his on-again-off-again very realistic relationship with his FBI girlfriend, and the tightrope he walks with his adopted son, Billy, take front row.
Although the bad guy in this book keeps the story fresh and the plot intense, to me it was the underlying story of Clevenger and his life that held my real interest. I was left at the last page not with the feeling of "good, the bad guy is dead," but that of "what's going to happen to Billy?"
I guess you could say I'm hooked.

It's easy to build a house of your dreams out of a mess. Why not build a family of your dreams out a mess. The Architect will do it all - even if you don't.
A good read - A good mystery.
A good read - A good mystery.
This is the first one of his I have read and I am off to order another. This book was wonderful. Serial killer book!
Not as spooky as the earlier books in the series, this one features a memorable murderous bad-guy. Themes drawn from current events include the president's membership in a creepy Yale University club. Interesting developments in Clevenger's and Billy's lives are explored, too.
Bit of a downer ending. As usual, the villain takes the cake.
I enjoy reading Keith Ablow books. This is another exciting one.
Another excellent psychological thriller by Ablow. I was engrossed til the very end!
Forenic psychiatrist Frank Clevenger is hunting a killer who not only designs the homes for his clients but makes them his victims. Its Keith Ablow therefore its awesome
I really like this author.
Forensic psychitrist Frank Clevenger tracks and traces another serial killer, while trying to get a grip on his own personal problems. Descriptions of "the architect"'s house designs are an interesting sidelight.
