Discover a tale about life among a group of friends who lived in the 1930s. Key characters were Julian and Caroline English. Much of the story revolves around this couple including their childhoods, education, early friends and those who are friends and associates after four years of marriage. They have known many of these people since childhood.

Money is scarce due to a depressed economy and Julian owns a Cadillac dealership but he makes a number of poor business decisions. His trauma due to this situation and doubts about who he is colors what happens between the couple. Yes, they are in love and can't imagine life without each other but life gets out of control. As the reader uncovers their lives one begins to understand the stresses and mores of the time. This is life as they lived it and the story concludes with a sad ending. I liked it and am turning to another tale by the author.
