Sweet, TX is a small town where everyone knows the other and is supportive of local businesses. Except these businesses are a bit run down and in need of a makeover. Enter Charli's show, "My New Town." They rehab small towns to help increase tourist dollars. Reno likes things just the way they are thank you very much.
Charli was a military brat with a father who ignored her. Reno was one of 5 sons in a family loved him just as he was. They both have tragic backstories (Charli mom was killed by a drunk driver when she was a kid and Reno's brother Jared was killed while serving his country, his father died, and his fiance killed in an auto accident- and that's not touching on his childhood from birth to age 5). I thought Charli was really good at what she did and I liked her connection with Jana (Reno's mom). Reno was decent too, but it took longer for him to change. The interplay between the brothers and their mom (and the townfolk) was fun.
Lots of name dropping country music stars, country is King, and the opinion that all other music is trash and can go suck it. That annoyed me. I also didn't appreciate Charli's choice of a vehicle- a Hummer. No one *needs* a gas guzzling, environmental killing machine such as that. She didn't off road or haul shit. It was transportation for her and her (1) dog.

Charli travels from town to town sprucing places up for her TV makeover show. When she rolls into Sweet, Texas, she immediately sees the potential and charm underneath the outdated buildings. Reno owns the local hardware store and avoids change like the plague. He cant seem to muster the same enthusiasm the rest of the folks are feeling for Charli and her show. Hed like her to get back into her yellow hummer and leave Sweet alone.

The more Reno resists, the more Charli pushes and their chemistry is undeniable and a little sadistic. They like making the other one uncomfortable and once they get to know each other a little better they discover their chemistry isnt just sexual there is more to Charli and Reno.

Reno has a lot of crap in his past and it is extraordinarily sad. While everyone around him picks up the pieces and moves on, hed rather stay buried under those pieces and holding onto them with his life. Charli has her own past heartaches but her approach to life is a complete 180 from Renos. Charli has her work cut out for her, but man was their verbal sparring fun to read. I loved all the ways they got under each others skin to get to each others hearts.

This book had me chuckling, had me wanting to beat some sense into Reno, and had me falling in love with the town and all the characters. I cannot wait to read Sweetest Mistake, if its anything like this one it is going to be reading time well spent! I will be recommending this to my romance lovin pals!
