Can anyone recommend well written books about living in jungles, third world countries or volunteering with third world countries.  The pros and cons of tampering with other societies?

There are some interesting books written by peace corp volunteers. One is an old one called Living Poor by Moritz Thomson. You might try a google search for peace corp volunteers who wrote books about their experiences. you might find some stuff on wikipedia.
