This book comes to us by way of a blog written by this registered nurse and health coach. It lists the acceptable foods, according to how far along the reader is in the program (things loosen up as you travel through the diet). After all the books I've read on the subject of anti-inflammatory foods, I have no doubt that switching to these foods will improve a person's health. The basis of this book is a diary or journal for four weeks by the author and her husband.

And here is the crux of the problem. The author tells what the couple has had to eat each day. There's a meal-by-meal description of the foods served, with general cooking instructions included. However, there is never a measurement of "how much of this or that." That limited the usefulness of this program -- to me. Diabetics need more oversight into the amounts of food being ingested. It also would have been helpful for testing to have been done by the couple, both pre and post, to know how much the dietary rules helped.

Perhaps my worst beef with this book was pushing fasting, even if it was short-term fasting. I think that is a discussion a patient should have with his/her physician. I believe diabetics would be poorly served by fasting. I don't think the author should have even mentioned it. She has no idea of the medical histories of the people who might pick this book up and try to follow it.
