The author had an accident and unable to call for help. Her dog runs off to get help and becomes her hero. Even CBS This Morning covered this story. This book is not about that dog.
Set in the late 1950's, this is an endearing "girl and her dog" story. We watch the bond between a five year old girl and her Manchester puppy grow into a spiritual connection until the dog's passing. A quick read, not only for the dog-lover, but also for anyone who has ever questioned, "How did I ever live without my pet?"

Far more than a rescue story, more of a sincere struggle of an isolated heart separated from those who matter most.
A beautiful read...it took me back to my childhood. was sweetly written from the heart. I just cannot even describe the way this book made me feel. a very quick read...and well worth your time.
On June 22, 1993 Lou Dean has a life threatening accident and her Dog Jake become her hero angel.. After much refection on her life she decided to wright about her life growing up in Oklahoma during the 50's. The book starts off with a story about her family and her first Dog Shorty. Shorty becomes her first Angel. Over all the book is a wonderful touching story but does have a few couple stomach turning stories. Because of her smooth and straight forward story telling could be a quick read. I don't recommend this book to anyone who can't handle wrongful deaths of animals.
