Growing up watching the series, I was almost hesitant to read this updated story because I didn't want to be disappointed by a modernized version of the tale. I wasn't. I really enjoyed reading about Angeliques roots, the how & why she became the beautiful but evil witch we love to hate. Lara Parker does a wonderful job recreating the dark shadows' magic.

Really interesting stuff... can get a bit heavy on the romance novelesque writing but not too often. If you are into the supernatural and/or the very natural story of the human heart, this is for you.

It's been a long time since Dark Shadows was on TV. I loved the show. I loved this book. This was the story before the show; it is the story of how Angelique became who she was, and how Barnabas became who he was. The writing was excellent, easy to read, and hard to put down. If you loved the TV show, you will enjoy this book.
