This book was pretty good. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading it but I have read all of Anne Rice's vampire and witch books. I have always thought her a very descriptive author and that is no different this time. I enjoyed the book, not her best writing, but if she writes more books like this I will probably read them. I would recommend it if you are an Anne Rice fan. I thought the story was good about a guy who is an assassin and is taken back in time by an angel to try and do right.

A wonderful treat for Anne Rice fans new and old....Anne Rice has found a new hero/new storyline that combines her gift for recreating 'the past and her desire to write Christian fiction following the conclusion of her Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches. Toby O'Dare is a character full of potential and the premise is a goldmine for both the author and her fans. If you gave up on Anne Rice with her Christ the Lord series-I encourage you to not only give those books a chance but to indulge in 'Angel Time' as well....a wonderful read and a delightful tease of 'more to come'.

I have always been an Anne Rice fan, but have found her recent writings much less "hardcore". Since she has found God again, it is reflected in her writings, and that makes for a very different type of book. That being said, this book still has her flair for details and "make-believe" characters, without the trash found in many of her vampire novels. It was a very quick read, but still good enough to make me want to read the next in the series.

I picked up a copy of this book at the grocery store. This is the first Anne Rice book I've actually read all the way through in awhile. Some of her latest books have not been appealing to me lately. But the subject of angels really grabbed me. I enjoyed the main character and his dilemma of good vs. evil, esp. since he's a hit man. I loved the descriptions of the Mission Inn and San Juan Capistrano. I want to visit the Mission Inn now. The adventure of visiting the past was interesting, and I'm looking forward to the sequel to see where the angel takes Toby next.

I didn't rate it as high as some of her other books mostly because I think it's less engaging than her other vampire books. Though Toby is a killer like the vampire characters, he's not as enrapturing as Lestat and Louise. But I do recommend this book since it still has her brilliant writing style, and creates enough of a reaction that you want to read the next book. The sequel comes out in Nov. 2010. Can't wait. I've preordered it already with Amazon.

Finished this book less than a week ago! Unfortunately, it didn't enthrall me like most of the vampire novels or even the ones about the witches (or spirit - if you will). However, if you are curious about how a good kid becomes an assassin and how guardian angels are involved then this is your book.

Very different, and a quick read. Looking forward to the next in the series.

This is only the second Anne Rice book I've ever read since I do not like stories about vampires.

Educated in Art History and specifically the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods, I hoped for a story-line more detailed about place rather than the characters inner angst. This was not an interesting read for me and Rice's writing style is too 'breathy' for my taste.

This story makes you come to love a hit man! Why would he be chosen to be given the opportunity to redeem himself? But he was and he is taking full advantage. His prayers begging for forgiveness for setting himself apart from God are heartfelt. In Angel Time this hit man is dropped into medieval time to help the Jewish parents who have lost their child to illness only to be accused of murdering her. It is a dangerous time for the Jews and he must find a way to help them.

I love Anne Rice, and she didn't disappoint with 'Angel Time'. The story's protaganist is an assassain who once dreamed of entering the priesthood. Toby's story is enthralling, especially when an angel comes to him after a kill and offers him the opportunity of his life...maybe of redemption.

Vampires and witches-----now Anne Rice is writing about angels. Just finished reading this book of 268 pages, a short book compared to some of her other books. It is about a hitman who was very good at his work and they called him Lucky the Fox. Not getting into great detail, things came about that he went on a mission with an angel back to the past to help out with a dire situation. The plot was simple, but yet complex at the same time. I liked this one. This won't be the last book about angels, either.

I've always enjoyed Anne Rice's books, but this one just wasn't my cup of tea I guess. I really had to push through to read the whole thing. I just kept thinking it would get better. The focus on organized religion was distracting to me. However, it DID remind me of a somewhat similar book that was FANTASTIC - The Gargoyle. I don't recall the author, but I still think about that book. The only similarities I think were the ability of the writer's to move the reader elegantly between current day and the 13th/114th century. In both, the main character is a tortured male. And both are on, albeit very different, spiritual journeys. I found The Gargoyle a much more enthralling read...as I said, a book I still ponder about...and may just have to read again!

The protagonist runs from a horrible family tragedy in New Orleans to a massacre in NYC to a life as a hit man in California to the past where false charges of blood libel threatens to result in more carnage. With the advice and encouragement of an angel, he finds a possible path to redemption and escape from the angry and hopeless life of an assassin.
