Captivating WWII romance with a touch of mystery

Mandy McCabe loves her job as a Women Air Force Service Pilot (WASP) testing repaired planes during WWII. Major Harvey Applegate lost his wife when the plane she was test flying crashed. Mandy and Harvey are set up on a blind date with mutual friends. Mandy's friend wants her to date Harvey so he will use his influence with the base commander to keep the WASPs on the base. Harvey's commanding officer wants him to try to keep Mandy out of trouble as she has a reputation as a troublemaker. Can Mandy and Harvey overcome their turbulent takeoff?

Likes: This book was loaded with information about various aspects of a pilot's life during WWII from both Harvey's and Mandy's perspectives. Also sprinkled throughout were explanations of military jargon or protocol, although not overbearingly so. Examples of bravery and heroism were abundant from the men in service as well as the men and women who filled supporting jobs. A story about Billy Graham was interwoven in a way that made me smile. The message of salvation was included in the book, but the book was not at all preachy. Harvey began taking his relationship with God seriously and checked to make sure Mandy understood salvation. Harvey and Mandy matured throughout the book, and they grew into their relationship.

Dislikes: When Harvey and Mandy first dated, they dwelt on each others physical attractiveness more than any character traits. Also at the beginning, the story didn't flow as well as it could have.

Overall, I would gladly recommend this book. The farther I read, the more I liked it. I enjoyed this one and would definitely read more books by Ms. Greene.

I received a copy of this book through The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.
