Set amid the splendor of Washington State's North Cascade mountain range, Hannah's latest (after On Mystic Lake) borrows elements from soap opera, the silver screen and fairy tales to make a simple statement about the complications of love. Dr. Liam Campbell is devastated when his beloved wife, Mikaela, mother of two, suffers a horse-jumping injury that leaves her in a coma. His confusion escalates when he learns the identity of Mikaela's first husband: world-famous movie star Julian True. The biggest shock: True's is the only name she responds to. Liam senses that his Sleeping Beauty needs love to wake her up, but whose? Given the depth of his feelings for her, will he be brave enough to summon True for help, and so risk losing Mikaela forever in order to save her life? Scenes reminiscent of Kramer vs. Kramer occur where Liam tries to be mom to their nine-year-old son; the suds world takes over when Mikaela finally wakes, but with retrograde amnesia, thinking she's still married to True and with no memory of Liam; and It's a Wonderful Life brings the curtain down. In keeping with the popular convention of giving voice to spirituality, the novel employs religious overtones, which will please some readers while leaving others feeling molested by an angel.

This is a well-written page-turner with "real" characters. This makes you think about the ways that love tests you and what lengths you might go to for someone you love...

When a young woman is injured in a riding accident, her husband turns to the first man she loved to bring her out of her coma, even if it means losing her forever. Good book - the author handles a theme that could have become a six-hanky Hallmark commercial and manages to make a compelling story out of it.

This is a wonderful story showing the meaning of true love. Mikaela is a lovely person, it was a long journey for her and how she came ot realize the true meaning of love. Liam is a very strong and gentle person. To me this book was a wonderful read. Kristin Hannah always gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling.

I'm not all the way through this book yet, but at about 1/2 way things are JUST getting moving. I'm going to guess and say that things are going to get better based on the reviews - but holy cow was the beginning s-l-o-w! Going to stick with it though!

Nestled into the hills of the Northern Cascade Mountains in Washington state, Liam and Mike (Michaela) Campbell have a picture-perfect marriage and family. While Liam enjoys the comforts of being a small-town doctor with an old family name, Mike cares for their two children and her beloved horses. But when a horrible accident leaves Mike in a coma, Liam frantically searches for a way to ignite her memories and awaken her. What he discovers makes him question the foundations of their love, as Mike has a secret past as "Kayla" and a previous marriage to her first love, Julian True. Though still in a coma, Mike responds to these stories. Liam knows he must contact Julian, and gamble his future on the past memories of a woman whose true identity and feelings are unknown to him.
Kristin Hannah's talent for writing poignant tales of duty, passion, identity and family bonds made last year's On Mystic Lake a bestseller, and will certainly rake in the fans this time. (Imagine Danielle Steel without the Gucci bags or aging corporate CEOs.) While the majority of the novel has our heroine knocked out on a hospital gurney, Hannah makes valiant efforts to bring Mike's character to life, and Liam's enduring love should keep you rooting for him and reaching for the hanky

Mikaela (Mica) Campbell is thrown from a horse and is so seriously injured that she falls into a long-term coma. Mica's husband, Dr. Liam Campbell, is left to care for their children. While sitting by Mica's hospital bed, willing her to recover, Liam talks endlessly to her. He recreates their life together through their shared history.

Inadvertently, Liam discovers the identity of Mica's first husband and father to her first child. Julian is a 'huge' movie star who was the love of her life. Julian, a shallow man, is convinced that he may be the person who is able to bring Mica out of her coma and agrees to travel to her bedside. Mica emerges from the coma, and what happens then is what helps her look at life through different 'colored' glasses.

Angel Falls is a family drama about how tragedy impacts the individual members and how they rise to the occasion and pull together. And it is about a loving, gentle husband who deeply loves his wife and will do what is necessary to help her recover; even if it means he might lose her.

Hannah's characters are richly drawn and the plot is compelling. It is a book you will enjoy and I guarantee that you will recommend it to others.

From the back of the book "Angel Falls is a moving portrayal of marriage and commitment, and of an ordinary man who risks everything in the name of love". A woman is injured and is in a coma while her husband cares for her and their frightened children. As usual, Kristin Hannah is good.

Angel Falls is the name of a place (fictional). It is where Mikela Campbell falls from a horse and goes into a coma. Her nine-year-old son, Bret, watches in horror as it happens.

Mikaela (aka Mike) has been married to Liam Campbell, a doctor, for ten years, and has built a happy life in the small village of Last Bend, where she is much loved by her family and by others. She was married before, and her daughter Juliana, called "Jacey", came from that marriage. Mike has said little about the former marriage and husband.

While hunting for a dress for Jacey, Liam discovers a secret: that Mike had been married to Julian True, famous actor, well known as a heartthrob. In their marriage, Mike had been known as Kayla.

The revelation shakes Liam. He has long known that his love for Mike is greater than hers for him, and she had admitted carrying a torch for this lost lover.

Liam is urged by Mike's mother, Rosa, to talk to Mike about their life. Liam goes further, surrounding her with mementoes of their life together. He talks to her every day, and when he discovers the name of her former husband, he talks about Julian. But lo! Mike reacts to the name.

In hopes of bringing Mike back from the coma, Liam contacts Julian True and asks him to come see her. Full of himself and highly successful, Julian nevertheless still harbors an affection for this first wife and he agrees. From here on Liam manages to walk a tightrope: he recognizes a special love Mike has for Julian while at the same time he hopes that she can somehow see past it to her present family and be content.

So. We suffer along with Liam and the rest while Mike lies there. Gradually waking. We listen to her thoughts, disjointed and lacking in context, as she emerges from the coma with her memory of the past fifteen years gone.

For me it was a long, slow, annoying emergence, filled with platitudes and prayer. I didn't understand how a young woman, however poor and isolated, falls for an empty shell of a man just because he promises wealth and a better life. As a young woman, Mike was intelligent and thoughtful. It seems contrary to her character that she would fall for Julian. This is the act of a flighty dreamer, and Mike was never that. So I just didn't buy it, and further did not buy her undying love for him after they parted. What was the attraction, once she had been with him? Was she blind? I just found it so hard to believe.

Easier to believe was Saint Liam's devotion to her. Although it is rare for someone to be so giving that he would let his wife walk away in order for her to be happy, it does happen, and it is the signature of real love. Liam risks all because he does know how to love.

To me, it was just too slow and sappy and dredged with religion. But I can see how it might appeal to others who are, in fact, religious.

This book, like the other Kristin Hannah books that I've read so far, was a really nice read. The characters were well developed and without being overly preachy or moralistic, Hannah allows the reader, along with the characters, to explore the various types of love. There is fierce parental protective love, the almost second-nature love of the married couple, and of course the violent, all-consuming first love. Hannah's writing is easy and relaxing to read, the emotional moments of the plot are not overly heavy-handed and the book overall was enjoyable to read. I would (and did!) recommend this to a friend.

When his wife falls into a coma after a head injury from a fall from a horse, his chances of losing her forever are great. When he learns of a previous marriage to a movie star, while searching for something in her closet, he keeps the secret to himself. However when she seems to respond from her coma, to the name of her first love, Liam brings him to get bedside in hopes that he will be able to bring her out of the coma, knowing that he risks losing her to get first love Julian. But she would be alive, and so selflessly Liam finds Julian. You experience the emotion Liam goes through taking care of his children, knowing their mother may never remember any of them, but bravely doing what he feels is best for her. I found myself holding my breathe at times fearful of the outcome and being broken hearted along with Liam and the two children. This was an emotionally charged book but well worth the read.

I read Mystic Lake and although it was a great book, I was disappointed with the ending, so far that reason I shied away from books by Kristin Hannah.
