Amos Fortune Free Man Author:Elizabeth Yates Amos Fortune was born in Africa, the son of a king. In 1710 he was captured by slave traders and brought to America. He lived as a slave until he was 60 years old and able to buy his freedom. By the time he died in 1801 he was one of the most respected citizens of the town of Jaffrey.
