This is an interesting series. When I have no book to read (a disastor in our house) one of my kids gives me one they want me to read. I got hooked on this series. It certainly gives the kids something to think about, and a gratitude for what they have today.

Another great book in this suspensful series!

Luke, a third child, hides quietly in his house, eluding the Population Police because he lives in a society in which families are only allowed two children. Now he has a chance to come out of the shadows by taking on an assumed identity and leaving home. This sequel to Among the Hidden (S & S, 1998) has Luke, now Lee, entering the Hendricks School for boys and a completely new existence where he feels lost and confused by his surroundings. He has gone from a furtive solitary existence to one in which he is never alone, from being desperate for company to being hazed by his classmates, particularly his roommate, "the Jackal." Lee learns to cope with the changes before him by escaping through the door to the outside.

Luke Garner, a shadow child, is out of hiding for the first time in his life. Since families are only allowed to have two children, subsequent children must stay hidden from the Population Police and their imminent death sentence.

Luke finds himself in a sort of witness protection program. He is separated from his family when he is given a new identity.

As a shadow child, he was never allowed to go to school. He has never met anyone outside of his immediate family. The second book in the series finds Luke enrolled in a boarding school under his new alias. Instead of going to class, Luke skips school and routinely sneaks outside. Will Luke get caught by the Population Police?

The author keeps you guessing until the very end.

All his life, Luke Garner has had to live in fear and hiding. He is a third child, an illegal by the passing of the Population Law. Knowledge of his existence spells his death and the death of all who tried to protect him.

Luke's dead best friend Jen Talbot's dad manages to get him a fake I.D. Suddenly he can be out in the world, mingling among others as Lee Grant, a Baron who had actually died in a skiing accident. At Hendricks School for Boys, a terrified Luke tries to adjust to life among other people. He is afraid all the time of someone finding out that he is a third child, and yet doesn't want to forget his real identity, either.

One day, Luke finds a mysterious door in the wall and escapes outside school confines, only to discover that the whole entire school is windowless. This sets of a chain of events involving other third children and Luke's own growing sense of self-confidence, awareness, and knowledge. However, not everyone is who they seem, and Luke must be extremely careful...or else the imposter among them will betray them all.

AMONG THE IMPOSTERS consists mostly of Luke trying to adjust to life in society. While it's perhaps not as exciting as the first in the series, this book is a chillingly convincing story of societal adjustment, and it will only involve readers ever more into this eerie and complex world.
