This book was rather disappointing because of the emphasis on the alteration of Rita Hayworth -- in order to become a highly paid movie star. I hate it when authors evaluate historical events in light of today's norms. Rita Hayworth chose to alter her ethnic appearance (she was half-Hispanic) to be more esthetically pleasing to movie producers. She chose to change to be more acceptable in movie roles. She did not have to accept those changes -- she could have remained a minor actress like Katy Jurado.

It is obvious from the information about Rita's father's emotional and sexual abuse of his daughter, that Rita would have poor relationships with men. And that pattern was repeated 5 times. Rita had a difficult life but she seems to have blamed others for her difficulties.
