This was a good story. I read Nora first. Nora married King's brother Cal and that was a good story also. I think this breed of man and woman is vanishing. King is antagonistic to Amelia and rude and mean yet she loves him. She is keeping a secret regarding her family life and her seemingly submissive attitude rubs King the wrong way. He thinks she's after his money whether its via his brother or him. Amelia puts up with his rudeness because she loves him. King seduces Amelia then throws her away. You'll have to read it to find out what happened. I love the way Ms. Palmer takes these hard, tough, arrogant men and matches them with strong, feisty, self-assured women they can't walk on and turns it into an unbreakable love. check it out.

Amelia loved the desert country of west Texas--its dazzling colors, white heat, and rough sensuality stirred in her very soul. But there was a serpent in her paradise: King Culhane. A towering sunburnt cowboy with silver eyes that missed nothing, he was a man she had worshipped when she was fourteen...a man she'd come to despise.
As her father pushed her to snatch a proposal from King's mild-mannered brother, Alan, Amelia wore the mask of a demure young lady, always correct and obedient. It was a face King held in contempt. Yet when she revealed the desire smoldering within her, it would set them both ablaze with a passion that could no be denied. And everything---propriety, filial duty, even love---would be scorched in the wake of their desperate need for each other....

NO PRETENSE COULD MASK HER DESIRE....

Amelia was afraid. Her father's violent outbursts were getting worse, and only when she quelled her own headstrong, independent ways was there any peaceespecially since her father was determined that she marry into the powerful Culhane family.
Though smooth, polished, mild-mannered Alan was taken with Amelia's fragile beauty and ways, Amelia was haunted by King Culhanewhose silver eyes could say more with a look than his brother could say with a dictionary. But his temper, like his courage, was legendary in east Texas. Men like King were dangerous.
King wanted her, and he took pains to make sure she knew itthough he regarded her as a piece of fluff who hoped to steal his brother's heart and bank account. But the woman in Amelia couldn't deny the raging need that could only be assuaged by King's savage embrace....
