I love all White's Sector General books and this is one of the better ones. Three novella's about the crew and hospital staff on the strangest ambulance in the universe.
Classic SF and a great read. Highly recommended.

There was a lot of talk about the vital importance of his new assignment, but it still seemed like a demotion to Senior Physician Conway. He couldn't quite appreciate the "honor" of becoming an ambulance attendant at this stage of his life.
True, the insectile empath Dr. Prilicla would be with him, and so would the eminently desirable Pathologist Murchison, but it was definitely a comedown for a Senior Physician to be conscripted as part of a first aid team for disabled spacefarers.
Or so he thought - and then the fist call came...
