Ambrose Bierce is a muckraker reporter in late 1800's San Francisco whose literary target is the Southern Pacific Railroad. He and his fellow reporter Tom Redmond are faced with horror of a killer known as the "Slasher" for his method causing the rapid demise of ladies in the bay area. The book intoduces the reader to a group of individuals known as the Queen of Spades from the silver days of Virginia City. If you like mystery, intrigue, romance, the wealth and power of Nob hill elite, and history of this era this one's for you.
