I came across this book at my local bookstore, and, as I stood there flipping through the pages, I was laughing so hard there were tears streaming down my face. When I noticed the strange looks I was getting, I sheepishly added it to my pile of books and made for the cashier. My Mom actually made these recipes back in the 70's! Once home, I read it from cover to cover, laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. My roommate had the same reaction. Then we took it to our theater and passed it around the green room before a show. Everyone loved it. I ended up buying copies for my sisters and my Mom for Christmas. (They loved it too.)
That said, McClure's sense of humor is sarcastic and intelligent. Nothing escapes her notice - the food, its presentation, the plates and dishes, the props, the backgrounds, and even the trends and fashions of the 70's. It's really one big riff on the 70's, expertly done by one very, very funny woman. If you like that kind of humor or even if you were just around back then, you will appreciate "The Amazing Mackerel Pudding Plan".
Please note that (as one other reviewer stated) there are expletives peppered throughout as well as sexual innuendoes. It is not a book for children or readers who are easily offended.

When I found the recipe cards in Wendy McClure's first book, "I'm Not The New Me," I laughed so hard I was crying. And then I had to share with my husband. He got a kick out of them too!
When I found she had a whole book dedicated to nothing but those recipe cards, I knew it was for me! I loved it! She re-shares the first cards that started it all and a whole lot more. I don't know what those people were thinking (or smoking) when they came up with some of the recipes, but they are excellent comic fodder some 30+ years later, especially when paired with the funny, often dry, comments by the author.
Not recommended for those offended by a liberal sprinkling of curse words.

I laughed so hard at this book that I cried. It's hard to believe that these are real recipe cards. Who would actually conceive of these recipes or make them?
