Cinnamon, who is a black woman, grew up in the foster care system. She fought for a secure and stable life until she finds an abandoned white baby in the park.

What follows is Cinnamon's attempt to try and raise a young infant, eventually needing to contact the authorities given the situation she's put in. The story includes snippets of letters from Daisy (the baby's mother) writing to her abandoned child highlighting events that shaped their lives and led them to the eventual present.

The book raises questions about race and privilege, and the judgements we cast on families when their appearances aren't the same. There are gaps in the plot and unrealistic situations. I did not like Jayson at all.
