I did not enjoy this book at all. The author seems ashamed of her Italian heritage, and goes to great lengths to hide it and down-play it. She goes into detail explaining the differences between the classy northern Italians and the unsophisticated peasants of southern Italy. As an Italian American myself I could not relate to any of her angst or shame.

An amazing book, especially for those of us with Italian roots. I found myself thinking how familiar all the stories and examples sounded.
