Good introduction to Alpine, Washington and the characters that populate it. Emma Lord publishes a weekly newspaper in Alpine and, one the side, stumbles over crime scenes. I enjoyed this a lot.

Great series taking place in Alpine, WA, a fictitious city and the protagonist is a single mom who buys the local paper and becomes the editor. There are a number of quirky characters and lots of murder going on. This is the first book in the series and I recommend it to someone who enjoys cozies. Personally I like this series better than her bed and breakfast series.

A new series to me. Adventure in the Northwest--female newspaper owner(Emma Lord) turns detective. A fun read. First of the series.

This book started off slow and boring, and I almost didn't stick with it; but it had a good plot and the murder mystery was done well. However, at the same time, it seemed there were so many characters that I couldn't remember who was who. Everyone was related to everyone, and there were so many of them. It felt like she was telling us about everyone in town, but after awhile I didn't even care. Also, Emma seemed to be pretty smart, but couldn't manage her newspaper very well. I will continue to read this series and see if anything changes or if the paper goes belly up. Only because of the mystery did I give it three stars.

This series of a small Washington state newspaper evidently will go from A to Z before it ends. The editor and owner, Emma Lord, is a single mom with a grown son who changes colleges and majors as often as changing socks. Emma's staff is a mix of some great characters and the small mountain town setting is wonderful as are the townspeople. Emma has a long time love, but the sheriff would like to be closer to her. The mysteries are very original. One of my very favorite series and authors.

This is the first in a series, with each title including the next letter of the alphabet (The Alpine Advocate, The Alpine Betrayal, etc).

I found the main character interesting as I have and am currently writing for an online paper. I also have an appreciation for small towns (though I don't live in one).

Good story, had me thinking all along and only revealed the truth in the end.
