this book offers insight into the process of a capital murder trial. things leading up to the murders, things that go on in the courtroom, the jury selection process, etc. there are many things offered in this book that the public was not made aware of at the time of the trial. i was on a capital murder jury, and this book was very "true" to the whole process.

I just finished this book, it was absolutely riveting. I could not read it fast enough. There is so much to be learned here about mental illness. There is still so much yet to be learned about mental illness. It is a very sad situation.

Excellent analysis of a very sick woman and the failure to treat her correctly before she committed the most terrible crime ever.

A true story exceptionally well written. Suzanne O'Malley's reportage is stunning for its depth, its persistence, and its compassion I cant imagine the leg work that went in to her own investgation to write this book.

An account of the horrendous drownings of the 5 Yates children by their mother, the events that led up to the event as well as the aftermath. If you had any doubt at all that Yates was mentally ill, you won't after reading this. I think that my one surprise was feeling more kindly disposed toward her husband Rusty, who was villified by the press at the time.

Even after reading the reviews, I could not understand how someone, (well, not just someone but a loving, devoted mother) could do what Andrea Yates did to her 5 small children. This book answers that question in a dignified, informative, and above all respectful way. I'll never look at her, the case, or mental illness in the same way. A must read! Page turner, could not put it down!
