One of her better ones, filler with plot twists and turns up to the very last page. It is a WOW, OH MY GOSH!!! Starting with an abduction of a 12 year old girl 25 years ago.....Read this one and you will be hooked as I am on this author.

"Alone" reads like a television miniseries and if you're after suspense, action and some psychological twists, this is the novel for you.

The character development of Bobby is excellent, and the storyline was pretty good. However, the last 50 pages seemed a bit rushed. It was disappointing that this book was missing Gardner's usual romantic component. However, the story was good, and the characters were complex and compelling, and I hope to see Bobby in another of her books. Overall it's a good read.

This was phenomenal....it keeps you guessing right up to the end, and even then, you're left wondering if what you think happened really did. Very suspenseful, and focuses primarily on the male protagonist.

Gardner reveals a "behind-the-scenes", in-depth look at how a hostage situation can play out from a sniper's perspective. State Trooper Bobby Dodge's life will forever be changed after a split-second decision to pull the trigger. Even after years of training, he is not prepared for the consequences of that decision and the aftermath that unfolds.
Intense drama and suspense....I highly recommend this book.

Another very good one by Lisa Gardner. I found this to be a riveting read that kept you guessing until the bitter end. The main focus is the emotional torment of Bobby Dodge, a police sniper as he wrestles with the ramifications, legally and personally of doing his job. DD Warren has a small supporting role in this book as an investigator of the main case.

Great psychological thriller! A SWAT officer on scene kills an abusive husband who is ready to shoot his wife, who's holding their four year old son. Now the dead man's parents are suing him, claiming he murdered their son, and that the wife, who was abducted by a pedophile as a young girl and still has 'issues', was abusing the child. With his world turned upside down, and secrets of his own, Officer Dodge needs answers and absolution, as killing in the line of duty isn't as justifyable as he'd imagined.

Thought this was a little different for a Gardner. No romance, just very good suspense. A police sniper shoots a man he thinks is about to shoot a hostage. Hostage is the man's wife and the man is the son of a prominent judge. Was the shooting justified, or was it murder?

Are all mystery books this good? Have I really been missing out? Nah, I don't believe it. This isn't a genre I normally read. I stay away from all books by those 'everyone-knows-best-selling-authors' for the most part. (I read them when I was younger, got bored with them, etc.)
So, I won 'Live to Tell' from FirstReads and was flabbergasted by how well it was written. The suspense, the characters, the whole nine, I had found a new author. (As if that was needed.) Soooo, I went ahead and started getting the previous books in the series before 'Save Me (Detective D.D. Warren, #5)' hit the shelves. Then time got in the way, blah, blah, blah and I'm just now getting to them. (I read 'Live to Tell', the 4th book in the D.D. Warren series first, a few months before it came out.)
I wasn't even worried that the first books wouldn't grab me. 'Live to Tell' took such a hold that I just knew her writing would probably always pull me in.
And this was no different. I don't remember many books, if any, where the suspense literally makes my heart beat faster. Lots of books claim it but hardly any deliver IMO. Well, this one delivers and more.
'Alone' is much more about Officer Bobby Dodge than D.D. but it doesn't even matter. D.D. shows up for a few small parts and I'm not sure how she's going to tie in because in the 4th she was the main character.
Catherine's character - I don't even know what to say. The only other character I could think of that comes to mind when I think of Catherine is Lisette in Dwayne S. Joseph's 'Home Wrecker' and 'Eye For An Eye' books. (If anyone has read either/both they'll immediately know how potent Catherine is.
I kept finding myself wondering how in the hell Gardner came up with this. Not so much the characters although that would certainly be one of my questions to her but how she came up with the plot. Honestly there are still a few small things I'm confused about. (This isn't the books fault, in any way, shape, or form. If it can be blamed on anything it's my memory or lack thereof.)
I'd love a glimpse into the mind that can come up with something like this. Going to start the second now assuming I got the correct books which I'm not starting to doubt.

This was the first book that I read by Lisa Gardner and by far not the last. My very favorite author is Harlen Coben and up until now no one has been close to being in the same league as him. This story kept me in such suspense and I loved the twist and turns the whole way through. She is an amazing author and I will be reading all her other books now. Mr. Coben has met his match!!

Lisa Gardner knows how to write a thriller that hooks the reader from the very beginning and this book is no exception.

Bobby is a state trooper, specializing as a sniper in a hostage response team. He responds to a call in which a husband is holding a gun to his wife and son. Bobby makes the deadly decision to shoot and his decision opens up a world of questions, lawsuits, and murder.

This book kept me riveted from page one. Gardner does a great job with creating mysterious characters that could all possibly be "the bad guy".

I just finished this book - very intense. I could barely keep up. It really moves along and I can't say I relate with any of the characters. I found them very credible but they move in a world that is completely foreign to me. Now that I'm done I don't feel that I know or understand the characters and what made them act/react in a certain way. I am left with the feeling that I missed something and I'm unsure if that is just me or if perhaps that is the way Lisa Gardner meant it to be. At any rate, while I enjoyed the book, I wish I could have formed a connection with at least one of the characters.

t's where you're most vulnerable
It's where there's no one to hear you cry for help
It's the last place you want to be when this killer comes

ALONE

AloneMassachusetts State Trooper Bobby Dodge watches a tense hostage standoff unfold through the scope of his sniper rifle. Just across the street, in wealthy Back Bay, Boston, an armed man has barricaded himself with his wife and child. The man's finger tightens on the trigger and Dodge has only a split second to reactand forever pay the consequences.

Alonethat's where the nightmare began for cool, beautiful, and dangerously sexy Catherine Rose Gagnon. Twenty-five years ago, she was buried underground during a month-long nightmare of abduction and abuse. Now, her husband has just been killed. Her father-in-law, the powerful Judge Gagnon, blames Catherine for his deathand for the series of unexplained illnesses that have sent her own young son repeatedly to the hospital.

Alonehe survived solitary confinement in a maximum security prison where he'd done hard time for the most sadistic of crimes. Now he walks the streets a free man, invisible, anonymous and filled with an unquenchable thirst for vengeance.

What brings Bobby and Catherine together is a moment of violencebut what connects them is a passion far deeper and much more dangerous. For a killer is loose who's woven such an intricate web of evil no one is above suspicion, no one is beyond harm, and no one will see death coming until it has them cornered, helpless, and alone.
