Overall, I enjoyed this book. You've got two headstrong protaginists, but unlike the heroines in Feather's Duncan Sistsers books, Meg Barratt is not so prickly as to be almost unlikeable. Cosimo (we never do find out his last name, come to think of it) is a dashing, competent sailor-slash-spy-slash-assasin. He knows what he's doing, except when it comes to Meg. There are the usual blissful love scenes, pages of witty dialogue, feelings of bitter betrayal, passionate make-up scenes, etc. I found myself interested in the descriptions both of life on an 19th century ship and life with Napolean. The story itself was fairly absorbing - I think I would have read it even if it hadn't been a romance!

Wonderful book. Second book i've ready by Jane Feather and I really enjoy her style of writing. I didn't think I would like Romances as much as I do but she also has a lot of other action. Meg is a wonderful leading character and i'm so glad she isn't one of those characters that bends to a man's every whim. Looking forward to reading more of her books.

Nice sequal to Almost A Bride. Meg Barratt, the heroin's best friend from Almost A Bride is the main character. She is mistakenly kidnapped by privateer Cosimo's crew and the rest of the book is her adventure with him on his mission to assisinate Napoleon Bonaparte. Nice story line, however knowing that the assasination will not work from the get-go took away from the plot. Somewhat of a weak ending.

At 29, Meg feels constricted by the tight reins of English society, and her rapidly approaching designation as a spinster makes her yearn for excitement, which she gets in spades. While walking home from the lending library, sailors mistakenly identify her as a privateer. Their captain, Cosimo, decides to use Meg in his plot against Napoleon. With unusual sangfroid, she sees this interlude on the high seas as an adventure as they travel to the island of Sark in the English Channel. Cosimo intends to seduce Meg so that she will become a willing accomplice as they travel covertly through France. However, she balks when she discovers the nastier implications of spying, and Cosimo begins to wonder if the gently reared woman he is coming to care for is really cut out to live a spy's life. In her latest historical romance, Feather presents a multilayered story about society, love, and the personal consequences of war.

The sequel to Almost a Bride, it didn't quite live up to it's predecessor but still worth reading.

The book wasn't uninteresting. I did however find she left out more than she put in. For instance we never did find out the hero's true identity or his relationship to the ever present Ana. We were left with a multitude of unanswered questions.

Independent and inquisitive, Meg Barratt wants nothing to do with any stifling society marriage. Meg years for the kind of passion that exists only in books-until a violent storm lands her on the high seas with the most dangerous and seductive man she's ever encountered...or imagined.
For Cosimo, women are objects, to be manipulated for business or pleasure...sometimes both. But when the seafaring assassin accidentally kidnaps Meg on his latest mission, he must reconsider his position. Recruiting his unsuspecting captive for the danger ahead is far more challenging that he expected-and far more seductive.
