The Countess of Havenhurst possessed a rare gentleness and fierce courage to match her exquisite beauty. But her reputation is shattered when she is discovered in the arms of Ian Thornton, a notorious gambler and social outcast.

A dangerously handsome man of secret wealth and mysterious lineage, his voyage to Elizabeth's heart is fraught with intrigue, scandal and a venomous revenge.

Destined for each other, yet wary of each other's motives, Elizabeth and Ian engage in a dance of suspicion and passion that tests the very soul of their star-crossed love. As a twisting path of secrets takes them from London's drawing rooms to the mysterious Scottish Highlands, Elizabeth must learn the truth: is Ian merely a ruthless fortune hunter at heart?

The usual Judith McNaught...you can always count on her for a wonderful Sunday lost between the pages of a faraway land of romance, magic and fantasy. This book, as are most of hers, is hard to put down, once you have started it.

I loved this book, who doesn't love the story of 2 star crossed lovers who can't get on the same page at the same time? Ian and Elizabeth to me is the best love story I have read. I have read about 5 McNaught books and this one is a reread real soon. You want to just love orphaned Elizabeth immediately and get on her side to give Ian a lesson. I loved Jordan and Alex in the book and can't wait to read again.

Ian Thornton is a handsome man and can be dangerous to a young lady's reputation. Elizabeth is dared to get closer to him by some friends but is unaware that she is the target of their malicious jealousy. As she is scorned by society she ends up in debt and her brother goes missing. Ultimately she is forced to marry in order to save the home she loves. There are MANY ups and downs during their relationship. Some I felt were insurmountable and I felt would definitely be deal breakers in a real relationship. However, Judith McNaught definitely pulls it off and it was another great romance!

[From the back cover] Love and Dame Fortune have played havoc with beautiful Elizabeth Cameron. The impoverished orphan has survived a storm of scandal in London...and now her uncle, who holds her estate in trust, commands her to choose among three unlikely suitors. Only Ian Thornton, a bold, handsome rogue who has made his fortune from exploits on the high seas, captures her fancy. But passion must conquer pride--for he wrongly sees the lady as a frivolous flirt, and she mistakenly disdains him as a fortune hunting gambler. From London's salons to Scotland's highlands, Almost Heaven weaves a lovely spell that will win your heart completely.
