I started reading all of Wen Spencer's books after reading "Tinker" and I think I like this series even better than the Tinker series. Spencer's plots always seem very well thought out and I usually feel satisfied by the time I get to the end of the book. Her characters are very compelling as well - she always has an intruiging backstory, and this is no exception. Ukiah Oregon is a tracker who works with a private investigator, and he is an ununsual young man in that he was found in the middle of the forest eating a rabbit - he was raised by wolves (!!) and has uncanny abilities at tracking and a photographic memory. He has a young innocence which contrasts with his superior abilities. This story starts out with Ukiah tracking a possible kidnap victim but soon Ukiah gets tangled up in something much bigger which also involves his past and where he came from. I want to go on about Spencer's original ideas but I think its more fun to read the book and find out for yourself. I really enjoyed this one.

I'm a fan of Spencer and werewolfs, vampires and such so I enjoyed this one. I haven't checked but surely this will become a series if it isn't already. Feral child who adopts fairly well to civilization and becomes a hunter of lost people, mostly children but has not idea of his own beginnings. The love interest is believable as are most of the characters so give it a try.

I loved this book and the one that follows,Tainted Trail. Starts off simple and gets complicated (and interesting) fast. Read it in one sitting.

This book was excellent!

Ukiah Oregon is a lovely blend of dangerous animal and charming innocent. This novel of discovery is full of interesting plot details and very cool characters.

I've only read one other book by Wen Spencer, but I can tell you now that I'll be reading ALL the rest.

Someone recommended this book to me ages ago, and it's languished on my TBR pile because I could never get past the title. Even now, knowing what goes on in the book, I hate it. It really does the book no favors because the mystery of Ukiah's heritage which is supposed to carry the first two-thirds of the book becomes not a mystery at all. It becomes a waiting game for Ukiah to catch up to the reader, which lessened my connection to him during that time. I also got drastically slowed down by the florid writing and exposition dumps in the first few chapters. Seriously, I almost put it down. I'm glad I didn't. About a third of the way into the story, the writing smoothed out into something more readable for me, and the story itself started getting more engaging.

There are never really any surprises in this as most developments get telegraphed in advance, but the characters and the depth of feeling between them helps to compensate for that. I liked the relationship between Ukiah and his partner Max best; Max filled a much needed role in the young man's life. Though I liked the character of Agent Indigo Zheng, I didn't really believe the instant love that happened between her and Ukiah. Still, it was nice to see a strong woman who wasn't a bitch. I'll be picking up the second book in the series. In the end, it's worth it to hang around these characters more.

Ukiah Oregon Isn't Your Average Man. He's Not Even Your Average Human....

Ukiah Oregon is quickly becoming one of the greatest trackers in the country. Some call it luck--those closest to him call it instinct. Abandoned as a child, he was found running with a wolf pack. Now, in his job as a private investigator, he puts his nose to the ground to track down missing persons and fugitives from the law.

A heightened sense of smell and taste- plus a photographic memory-make him an invaluable asset to his partner. But when Ukiah kills a crazed young woman in self-defense, he draws the attention of the FBI's most wanted: a violent and elusive gang known as the Pack.

And it won't be long before Ukiah discovers just how much he has in common with the Pack: a bond of brotherhood, blood...and destiny.

A well written story with all the right elements. Suspense, thrill, action, humor, romance, and many others. I finished it in one sitting. A story which shows the innocence of love in all it many facets, for family and friends alike. Just right amount of twists and turns without being long winded on excess detail. A new twist on "alien". Really like the story and seriously recommend it for those looking for something different and exciting.

This is a fantastic series. I cannot believe they all take place in a three month span of life. If have not read the other three, wish list them fast....

Very well written. The characters make you feel for them deeply, and are so interesting. Ukiah Is an alien brought up by wolves and found feral as a child. He is fighting with a group of aliens from his home planet against a group from his home planet that are really bad, who want to take over the world.

I Read all four back to back. This one is by far the best
