I would have really, really adored this book at age 12 or 13. As it is, I'm 28 ... and still enjoyed it immensely. But, it's definitely a must read for the younger crowd.

I thought this book had wonderful characters, a great plot. The characters are intelligent, funny, brave, and really anything you could wish for in terms of a story.

The story touches on many elements - not just a magical adventure, but also things like what it means to be a girl, prejudice, problems with the modern "western" world, etc. And these ideas are superbly interwoven into a story of magical adventure.

If I were 12, I'd be giving this 5 stars! As an adult, I gave it 4. I'll definitely be reading more by the author.
