Just as Agatha and James are about to say their I Do's in wanders the allusive Jimmy Raisin. Yes, that Jimmy Raisin, Agatha's first husband whom she had thought was long dead.
So with the wedding off and Agatha spitting nails, Jimmy is found dead in a ditch and since it appears no one else knew Jimmy, it had to be Agatha who killed him. But wait, not so fast , there are others in this tiny village that have secrets and Jimmy being there just might throw a wrench into their plans.
This is a very good series, humorous and with an interesting cast of characters that follow Agatha from book to book.

More Agatha and more James, and more murder. This one was good, with some one liners that made me laugh out loud. Agatha has got to be bi polar, don't you think? She is the best.

Agatha is set to marry her next door neighbor (James) - finally - when her long lost husband shows up at the ceremony. Agatha assumed he was dead but he's here in the flesh to stop the ceremony and live out his remaining years in cushy style with plenty of drink. When he turns up dead shortly afterward, all roads lead to Agatha and/or her former betrothed James. They embark on an investigative journey to clear their names.

Agatha Raisin is a stitch, but the series should be read in something resembling sequence. This is nowhere near the first book, or the best, but it's a lot of fun.

This like the other MC Beaton books are a fast read, yet they are full of adventure and in this case emotion.
Your heartbreaks for Agatha, yet she can make you laugh in this book as well. All the while is trying this time to free herself from a murder rap. This a one of the BEST Agatha books.

The blunt Agatha Raisin, with her stocky figure and "bearlike eyes," makes for an unusual sleuth, and her fifth outing (after Agatha Raisin and the Walkers of Dembley, 1995) certainly makes for an unusual adventure. The former public relations powerhouse who left London and a career for a simpler life in a Cotswold country village is about to marry her handsome next-door neighbor. But the wedding ceremony is halted mid-vow by the arrival of Jimmy Raisin, the husband Agatha fervently hoped was dead and has neglected to mention to James Lacey, the fastidious, upstanding citizen currently waiting to tie the knot. Even less convenient than a living husband who interrupts your wedding is one who, shortly thereafter, turns up dead in a ditch in the immediate neighborhood. Naturally, Agatha and James top the suspect list. But the dead Jimmy was a down-and-out alcoholic who had been known to practice a bit of blackmail. Agatha and James track down some of his victims, who have a distressing tendency to die shortly after being questioned by the two.
