When I first read this book I was so shaken I couldn't have written a review. I held onto the book for years, knowing I'd have to read it again just to be sure I hadn't gone crazy while reading it the first time. Finally I had enough distance from it (I thought!) to read it a second time...but the impact was just as powerful. You've read those books, seen those movies wherein you find yourself thinking about an action a main character is taking and wanting to say 'You fool! What are you thinking of?' or the like, right? Well, Harrison does such a good job of reeling one into the story your thoughts are more likely going to be "I know why we're doing this, but I wish we didn't have to". Gives a new meaning to the word 'gripping'.

This book follows a woman who was in prison after being busted in mob activities, but then is suddenly spring (arranged by the mob) because they want the money she supposedly took from them. She meets a Vietnam vet who had been a POW during that war and they join forces. This book is very graphic with sex and violence, the plot is great, but the ending is very polarizing - you either hate it or you love it.

In his quest for immportality Charlie Ravitch gets much more than he bargained for. Very dark concept.

This was a fantastic book - intriguing, fast-moving, macabre, however, not for the faint of heart...well-written and laid out..

Great adult writing, interesting motivations, strong characters, but somehow not a great novel. It sorta petered out at the end. I never believed for a second the mafia let a couple non-family contractors drive five million bucks in cash, that for some convoluted reason MUST be hidden in air conditioner boxes. While it is clear the writer did some research into Chinese business practices, he did less investigation into the realm of fugitives on the run, and it shows. The weakest character in this thing is the female protagonist. We don't ever have a clear view of what she looks like or what she will do next. In one scene she is able to blend in with the nobodies on the street, in another she finds herself in a five-star hotel bar alluring CEOs. Next time you go to Wal-Mart, ask yourself if you see anyone there who would be appealing to the CEOs of the world who have the means to date supermodels, because most people don't exist in both states.

Charlie Ravitch is driven by power. As an International corporate tycoon hes's well-skilled in the art of the deal.As a former Vietnam POW he still carries the scars of war. As a husband and father on the hard side of fifty he's on a quest for immortality-and for a woman who can make every dream come true. No matter what it costs.

Christina Welles is driven by greed. As a prison parolee, she's a vetern of dangerous--and seductive--relationships,a cunning woman well-schooled in the art of manipulation. Her bid to stay alive on the streets means outrunning her past, and escapeing a lie that threatens every life she touches. No matter what it takes.

In a moment of chance, two lives are about to intersect. In a nightmarish twist of fate, two obsessions are about to be indulged. And in a world where anything goes, one false move can destroy them both...

If you like money, sex and the mob with some very twisted writing you will love this suspensful book.
