Oh Kate! Can I seriously kick you in the ass? Why must you try and sabotage your relationship with John. I'm rooting for the two of you, but you both seem to need some serious couples counseling because you are both stubborn as hell and relationship shy. Just Stop it for crying out loud. Your killing me here.
I absolutely love this series despite Kate being a huge pain in the ass. Linda Castillo outdid herself on this one. I honestly found this to be the best one in the series. After a tornado sweeps through Painter Mills a set of bones are unearthed by some boy scouts picking up some trash near an old barn. Kate must find who the bones belong to, how they got there, and when they got there while she battles her own personal and job issues. Although I was quick to guess the who done it part I still enjoyed the writing and what happens in between.

Another great book in an amazing series! This one had so much going on, just couldn't put it down. It was basically a one-day read because I didn't want to do anything else. Kate's personal life has a much stronger stage in this one.
When a tornado rips through the small town of Painters Mill, a skeleton is unearthed. Police Chief Kate Burkholder must ascertain the identity of the man and piece together what exactly caused his death. As evidence is gathered, Kate discovers that the death was not an accident. While investigating the case, someone takes a shot at her. With someone trying to kill her, Kate has a thirty-year-old murder on her hands that she needs to solve.
This is another solid addition to the Kate Burkholder series. I thought it was very easy to figure out who the victim was and exactly what happened to him. But watching Kate and her deputies piece together the facts was fun. In addition to the mystery, this story also features potential problems between Kate and her lover, John Tomasetti. I wasn't thrilled with the resolution to that story. I'm looking to see where Kate and John go from here. My rating: 4 Stars.

I love the Kate Burkholder series and this one is full of exciting, non stop incidents. A lot of personal life is shared with hunky John Tomasetti which I enjoy, unlike one of the reviewers here.
SPOILER
Kate has a lot going on after a devastating tornado hits, and she finds herself in implausible situations she shouldn't have attempted due to her pregnancy,
She and Tomasetti try outrunning the tornado while trying to help others and they barely make it back to the Police Station. She crashes into a tree as someone takes shots at her, she climbs to top of a barn and falls five feet into a hogpen full of hungry hogs, she takes another fall chasing someone, all this while trying to solve a 30 year old mystery which makes for a very interesting story.
If you're following the Kate series, you'll definitely want to read this one.

This is not the best in what has consistently been an excellent series, but it is still worth a read. Even a mediocre Kate Burkholder story is still better than 99% of the drivel out there.
excellent thriller devoured this installment!

This is a great series and should be read in order. I'm looking forward to the next one as it will be released very soon.
