This book gets very mixed reviews! I enjoyed it because it carried on from 'Captive'. The story was good as I remember but I think it may have aged somewhat in what we find palatable now days in a hero. The best book of this trilogy I feel was 'The Bodyguard'. That is book #3.

Part of a historical trilogy - The Bodyguard, After the Kiss, and Captive. All three are wonderfully written, very powerful stories. This one evokes Beauty and the Beast - Marcus was seen kissing Miss Eliza Sherridan - but rather than do the honorable thing and propose - he went to war. He is badly scarred when he returns, and the guardian of his two nieces. He hires the woman he ruined to be their governess, and he falls in love with her all over again...
