This is first book in a new trilogy by Jarrett. The story of Mary and John is lovely and engaging. They are interesting characters with wonderful dialog and vivid histories. The main that detracts from the book is the secondary characters. Mary's sister, Diana, who is supposed to get her own book, is just annoying, selfish, and rude. The villain is not very realistic and his motives are not as strong as others that Jarrett has created in the past. Mary and John are a wonderful couple and my only complaint is that we do not know if the duke, Mary's father, disinherits her or not. I am guessing that will be revealed in the next book, but it would have been nice to know here.
