I have just finished reading this book, and I am ordering another copy to give to someone else, as I am not yet ready to part with my own. It talks about how even if your parents weren't alcoholics, but your grandparents were, that the dysfunctional behaviors your parents learned could STILL be passed on to you. The book has tons of practical exercises, many of them dealing with journaling and creating family histories. Even if they sound silly to you, please at least TRY them, they really DO help. Although this book is almost 20 years old, it is not at all outdated! I just finished my copy today, and just ordered a second copy minutes ago. It is much different and more practical than most of the other ACOA or codependency books I have read, although I also HIGHLY recommend anything by Beattie (last name)
