A masterpiece of comic irony.

This is the first two books of the Adrian Mole series in one volume. A tongue in cheek diary of a British school boy growing up in the 1970s and 80s. At times rather precious and obvious, this also has some funny moments. Light, easy reading.

Hmmm, Harry Potter meets Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and this was written before both of them. I may want to give it to a 14 year old ex-student, but it's just a little too adultish for my puritan tastes (a couple of paternity suits going on in the background).

This book wasn't at all what I had expected. After reading so many reviews about how hilariously funny it was, I found it to be a total let-down.

I chuckled over a few parts, but more often than not I was stuck on the British mannerisms and references to things of which I had no idea what the characters were talking about. I gave up after the fifth chapter.

Maybe others will find it a lot more humorous and easier to read than I did!
