Active Chemistry: Small-Scale Lab Manual (Student edition)
Active Chemistry SmallScale Lab Manual - Student edition Author:John Little, Gary Freebury, Arthur Eisenkraft Small-scale supplement to "Active Chemistry". — In this time of limited of limited budgets and increased environmental concerns, it is only reasonable to seek ways in which to spend less money while producing smaller amounts of waste. Small-scale laboratory experiments do just that! In creating this supplement, we have tried to be faithful to the... more » original, making only those changes that significantly reduced the quantities of reagents consumed and waste produced. None of the changes affects the focus of the original activity. Beakers have been replaced by well plates, solutions are delivered in plastic transfer pipettes, but the skills and concepts have been retained.
Not all of the activities have been scaled down. Many of the original activities in "Active Chemistry" are already as down-sized as they can be and still retain the teaching points, while others simply do not lend themselves to small scale. Despite their rapidly growing popularity, small-scale labs ("microscale") may not be familiar to all.
We hope that you will find this supplement helpful and that you will discover, as thousands of your colleagues have, that small-scale labs are not only economical and environmentally sound, they focus your students' attention better and they are often quicker to perform, giving you and your students more time to explore the excitement of chemistry.« less
