This is a paperback book. I just finished reading it. It is very good "hard" science fction with believable aliens, a good plot, and interesting settings and relationships between characters.

If you could picture an story that combines the archaeology of Indiana Jones and the wayfaring adventures of Star Trek, this gem from Rovert Silverberg would be it. The characters in the book excavate and extrapolate information for archaeological sites on far away worlds, in an attempt to discover the oldest civilizations in the universe.

When an excavation leads them to discoveries that predate those of the known galaxy, they also discover truths about the beginning and the end of time!

A quick read, and a fascinating combination of the past and the future!

A novel of space archeology, where a small diverse team discovers the billion-year extinct High Ones may not be so extinct after all.

Told in a lively voice through correspondence, which works well, although I usually dislike that style of writing.

Recommended.
