I love paranormal stories, and I love a great sense of humor and quirky characters in them. However, that must be done well or it's just irritating- sadly that's what "Accidental" was for me. Our "heroine" literally has NO personality, she's kind of a stand-in who reacts to things however the author thinks she should to progress the scene- whether it makes sense or not.

It's established very early on that she doesn't like her dog much, then she spends the rest of the book screaming for him if he's ever not in her arms at the moment- why does she start caring so much out of nowhere? She's dull, she's not smart and the whole "love interest" angle was pathetic and poorly done. She never uses her brains or courage, and her "gifts" are literally slapped onto her at the last minute- and of course she can easily use them, even though she didn't show any basic motor skills or common sense before. I liked her sassy grandma, and I only wished SHE was the star in this book. The whole thing reeks of being slapped together quickly, and I suspect it may have been to cash in on the success of paranormal and "cozy" funny books. I'll stick to Sookie Stackhouse and Queen Betsy instead of Lizzie Brown, thankyouverymuch.

I didn't have a lot of expectations when I picked up this book. I was just hoping for a fun, fluffy read. I didn't even get that. The characters have the potential to be interesting, but are never fully developed. The plot points seemed to move too quickly, jumping from one incident to the next, with a minimal amount of build up, and sudden, unsatisfying conclusions. For example, the author introduces us to a werewolf clan, sets us up for a big battle, and then within two pages its over and done. Very unsatisfying. I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this one.

"All in all" this book was OK. At the beginning all the characters really irritated me. It was like standing in a room and everybody talking at once. I was frustrated that no one explained anything to the main character, Lizzie, but she just goes with anything she's told. There a section that deals with werewolves - don't really think it was necessary unless the author was setting up the alpha to be used in a future story. I have to admit my favorite character was Pirate....her dog.

I really was not impressed with this book. The characters never developed. The story seemed contrived. It *could* have been good. It *sounded* like a good, fun, lighthearted read. Oh well. At least it didn't take long to read!

I usually love books that are written with a humorus slant.
This one sucks. Hard to follow all the garbage the author
throws in.

This book was very interesting for me to read.

First off, instead of bringing you slowly into this story, it pretty much throws you right into it without a warning. I mean you jump right in to Lizzie's 30th Birthday and her grandmother (whom she's only recently just met) has locked her in her bathroom saying she is a witch. The moment the time hits Lizzie starts seeing crazy demons and creatures that she never knew existed.

Secondly, it is like never ending action. There is always something else that is fixing to happen just after they have gotten themselves out of the last situation! It was almost too fast for me at times, it was like you never got a breather and also that I would have to back up and re-read a paragraph or two to even remember what in the world was going on.

I did however enjoy this book. I loved how her dog, Pirate talks, he is the comedy of the story and I loved it. The romance with Lizzie and Dimitri was intense and interesting. You felt very many different feelings throughout this book.
Definitely worth the read!

I think people are being a bit too harsh about this book! haha. I am a picky reader, but I actually enjoyed it. When you read the back of the book....you have to figure it's one of those "light, fun" reads, and that's just what it is. It was fun, and that's what counts! You can't be overly serious about a book of this type, lol.

There are problems with the book, like some reviewers mentioned, but nothing that can't be overlooked. I am figuring that this is the first in a series, and I believe by a first time author (?) so that's why. In a 1st series book there's alot of info that needs to be crammed in! I don't think the author quite pulled it off but I'm willing to try the next in the series. It was very funny, had lots of fun action and some good romance, to boot.

I'm hoping though, that more gets explained in the next book and the main character isn't quite as clueless. I also want to see more of Pirate....that dog is a crack up ;)
(as to the person who complained about the not being able to hear Pirate thing~ it's because she hadn't come into her powers yet, that's what was meant by that line!)

My advice about deciding to read it? Go ahead. If you don't like it you can always swap it again here! It's definatley worth the few dollars a credit costs. Have fun!

I would say that if you like books by Katie MacAlister and MaryJanice Davidson's - Queen Betsy series, you'll like this book. If your paranormal tastes lean towards Sherrilyn Kenyon, Laurell K. Hamilton and J.R. Ward (as mine do) then you may find it difficult just getting through this book.

There is one word for this book. Fun. Sheer, glorious fun.

Meet Lizzie Brown. Uptight, until she meets her real family that is. She is from a long line of demon slayers, and on her 30th birthday, her long-lost grandmother has come to inform her of this fact. Now Lizzie is working with her grandma and a coven of witches called the Red Skulls to help fight a demon named Vald.

Lizzie is scared, uptight, clumsy, and yet brave at the same time. It's really fun watching her learn who she is, and really come into herself. And watching her interact with a super sexy griffin doesn't hurt either.

My favorite character in this whole book though is Pirate. Pirate is Lizzie's Jack Russel Terrier who just happens to talk. He's super funny, sweet, and hyper, and makes me want to know where I can get my own talking dog.

This book is fun, action-packed, and man is that griffin HOT! The interaction between him and Lizzie will leave you melting.

This is a great book, a super fast and super fun read! I have the second book on my bookshelf, and I'll be diving in headfirst soon!

This was a nice story. Not as intense and suspensful as I've been reading but good. For those who like the good vs bad, and sexy paranormal hunk, this is good. It also has some great funny lines and situations. Read it for a change of pace.

Cute read with her talking dog... who in my opinion, is the star of this story.
It's Fox's first published book and hopefully she'll do a better job explaining her story in the future. I plan on saving this book (I swapped for) and picking up her newest, when it comes out... April 28th!!

First time I have read this author. It was really different, more fantasy than paranormal in my opionion. I will probably read others in the series. It wasn't one of my favorite, just okay.

This book, for what its worth, was a light and fun read. Poor Lizzie had her 30th birthday all planned; drinks at a nice restaurant with her friends and crush, Ryan. Well that was until Grandma showed up and a demon appeared in her toilet, her dog started speaking, and she inherited powers to slay demons. Soon she finds herself training to fight demons, hanging out with Biker Witch Grannies who use roadkill in their magic, and getting involved with a shape shifting griffin who has an agenda of his own.
I feel like Angie Fox tried too hard at certain points. Pirate, the dog, started out as a very promising character, but after awhile got on my nerves. There was a lot of information thrown at the reader, but world building isn't an easy task. The Biker Witch Grannies made up for any other parts that were lacking; they were hilarious! I will be reading the second book as soon as I receive it.

I stopped reading this in ch 14 which is a good 3/4 of the way through. It started out ok, the heroine, Lizzie, gets shoved in her bathroom by her previously unknown biker witch grandma while she comes into her demon slayer powers. A little demon pops up in her toilet and after Lizzie takes care of it the crap has hit the fan, they have to escape with her (now) talking dog on Grandma's pink Harley. They encounter the hero in Griffin form, Dimitri, in the midst of being attacked by Pixies and Grandma's bike is trashed in the fight. They end up at the Grandmother's "coven" of nasty biker witches who use road kill in their spells and seem to be genuinely mean on many levels. I stopped enjoying the story at this point. They wiped raccoon liver on Lizzie's face in a ceremony and boss her around, their bar is trashed and they move into a Shoney's with a bunch of mean werewolves once Grandma has been captured by the bad demon. The hero has barely stayed in the story by now and the heroine has no relationship with anyone, no character growth... and I got tired of reading all the gnarly things done to her by a group of gross witches! Normally I don't have much of an ick factor, but why push it in a romance novel? The characters were all over the place and poorly written once more than 3 people had to be wrote into a scene. This was a bad novel, the ideas were cool, but not constructed into story form well.

Fox takes a refreshing twist on paranormal romance tropes by giving us a feminine lead who isn't moony-eyed mopey chick. Similarly, vampires are pleasantly absent and demons are just evil not fallen angels seeking redemption. Unfortunately Fox sticks to the tropes on the romance end with the completely typical romance storyline between Lizzie and Dmitri. I actually found myself grateful whenever they were ignoring the romance bit of the storyline. Hopefully their romance improves in the next book.

Check out my full review.

I read this while on vacation a week because it sounded interesting enough and I had nothing better to do. Lizzie, a young school teacher discovers she's from a line of witches and that she's the latest "demon slayer" and has a destiny she's never known about. One minutes she's teaching little kids, the next her little doggie is talking to her and she's plopped on a Harley with a grandma she's only known for minutes and is expected to slay demons with next to no training and, of course, there's a hunky paranormal guy thrown in to save the day.

This book started out cutesy enough but devolved into a crazy, unexplained mess. Grandma is dragged into the second layer of hell and Lizzie must rescue her. Why? Don't ask me, I still can't make sense of it. And when the dog starts talking we are told by way of the dog as a way of explanation something along the lines of: "Oh he's been talking all along, Lizzie just now started listening." Sorry, not buying that lame explanation. There are many other issues such as this that make the book feel like it's mid series when in actuality it's the first in a new series. Not helping matters is the problem of Lizzie ineptness and dependence on others to bail her out and the fact that she's one of the dullest characters I've come across in one of these books. It gets old fast and is frustrating.

This is not a book for those who like things to make sense but I guess it's a decent enough read if you don't think too hard on any of it. I doubt I'll go out of my way to find the later books that complete the series though.

This is the first book in the Demon Slayer series by Fox. Right now there are seven books in this series. I got this for free on my Kindle a couple years ago and am just finally getting around to reading it. This was an okay read; it reminds a lot of Molly Harper books but with demons.

Lizzie Brown works at the Happy Hands preschool and her life is completely changed when she comes to find a demon on her toilet. Then her biker grandma enters the scenes and tells Lizzie she's a powerful demon slayer and in horrible danger. After that her dog starts talking to her and the sexy shapeshifting griffin, Dimitri Kallinikos, claims he is protector. That's when things start to really go downhill fast.

This book reminds a bit of a Molly Harper book but featuring demons instead of vamps or werewolves (although there are werewolves in this story too). Although I didn't think it was as funny as the Molly Harper books or quite as well written.

The story is a bit campy and over the top. It was okay but not really my thing. It was an okay humorous paranormal romance read.

Lizzie kind of fell flat for me as a character; she comes across as a bit ditzy and whiny. I didn't really like her insta-love with Dimitri either. Her biker gma and her witch coven were just a bit too silly for me as well. Additionally I found Lizzie's talk dog Pirate to be more annoying than funny (usually I am a fan of the talking animal sidekick but it didn't work here).

I did like the idea of demon slayer genes being inherited (not completely original but interesting). I also liked that Fox included a shapeshifting griffin, that was kind of neat and different. Aside from those things though the book was just okay.

Overall an okay goofy paranormal romance read. Fans of Molly Harper might want to check it out although it's not as funny or as well written as Harper's series. I didn't hate the book, but I didn't really like it all that much either...just okay all around.

If you're looking for a fun paranormal adventure, then hold onto your helmet, this will be one heck of a ride ! Lizzie Brown is looking forward to her 30th birthday party. But its waylaid by a demon popping up on her toilet seat and her Harley riding Grandma showing up casting spells! To make matters worse, now her dog Pirate is talking to her. She soon learns she is coming into her demon slayer powers , powers she hadn't a clue about.

Riding with Grandma to her coven, a backwoods gaggle of biker women, she meets up with Dimitri, who swears he is her protector. A glass of tall dark and handsome, it doesn't take Lizzie long to fall into his arms. After running into a pack of werewolves, she finds out that Dimitri has not been totally honest with her. Lizzie's only hope to make everything right is to go to the underworld and fight a demon.

Watching Lizzie learn about her heritage and work with her powers was much like watching a child ride a bike. Its a bit wobbly at first, but once she gets the hang of it, its phenomenal. Fox's debut novel is full of like-able character, wit, and magic. I look forward to reading much more about Lizzie's adventures.

The story is okay but not wonderful. It seems to stall in places. It does however have it's moments. The story is about witches, werewolves, griffins and demons of course. It didn't really have me involved with the characters. I don't think I will read more in this series.

I can't decide whether I liked this book or not. All I kept thinking while reading was "white trash" Barbie! I just couldn't fathom the witches magic that was performed using (and eating) roadkill. Yes I did say roadkill - squirrels, possum, armadillo, ugh!

The book started off with a bang and stayed that way through the entire thing. On the eve of her 30th birthday, Lizzie Brown is accosted by her biological grandmother whom she'd never met before and locked inside her own bathroom. Her grandmother proceeds to tell her that she is from a long line of demon slayers and it is her destiny to stop (kill) Vald the demon. Apparently Vald is after Lizzie's immense power (yeah if only she knew how to harness it herself). Enter her protector, Dimitri Kallinikos the griffin. Lizzie is instantly smitten with this Greek hottie and is ecstatic when she learns he is going to teach her magic. One thing leads to another. On top of our white trash witches, we also have to deal with pixies, imps and demons. And supposed allies, the werewolves. Unfortunately the werewolves are fighting amongst themselves and the witches (and Lizzie) get caught in the middle.

This is an exciting story and Lizzie kicks ass (once she learns how). I loved Dimitri and her crazy-ass grandmother though most of the witches got on my nerves. I own book two in the series so I guess I'm going to continue at least that far into the series. Though I must admit I've had my fill of roadkill so it will be a while before I attempt to get back into this adventure.

Well, I am trying out new books and hoping to find one with the right balance of humor, romance, excitement and pace and this one fell short on a few of these.
It was a great story, I liked the main character, she was sassy, quick witted and had a great sense of humor but it just couldn't pull off the lag in the story.
I kept thinking if the author had shortened the story and took out all of the blah blah blah it would have been great.
Just too long a story.
