When I read the New Yorker article that forms the bulk of this book, I wound up crying on the subway. Now, several years later, I am still moved by Trillin's glorious ode to his much loved wife.

A poignant and heartfelt love letter to the author's late wife and muse. I read it in one sitting.

Beautifully written, loving, warm, tender tale of family life and love. This was a happy marriage between two intelligent, humorous people and their children. Now, more than 8 years after her death, Calvin Trillin offers us a portrait of Alice Trillin - a stunningly beautiful woman who was an educator who was equally at home teaching at a university or helping out at a drug center, raising her girls, or working as a gifted writer. This beautiful love story deals with devastating loss in a way you can relate to, whether you have suffered the same or not. It is a fast and absorbing read. I do recommend it and suggest passing it on then to a good friend.

A love story - written for and about the author's late wife, Alice. Though he deals with the heartbreak of losing her, he successfully depicts their loving, funny relationship. Or, as he tells it of the night they met: "You have never again been as funny as you were that night," Alice would say, twenty or thirty years later. "You mean I peaked in Decemberof 1963?" "I'm afraid so."

This is a wonderful memoir. It made me want to follow Trillin in how wonderfully he loved his wife.
