A. A. Alvarez (born 19 February 1982) is the author of the book, Chronicles of a Nomad: Memoirs of an Immigrant (2009). Born Alex Alberto Alvarez and raised in Venezuela, he grew up in Caracas and left his country after witnessing several revolts, a major economic disaster, and two coup attempts.
Alvarez first hit the literary scene with his work Chronicles of a Nomad: Memoirs of an Immigrant (2009), a first-person adventure told from the perspective of an intrepid young man who grew up realizing that home wasn't the place where he was born. The author later completed the Spanish version of his book, and it is titled Crónicas de un Nómada: Memorias de un Inmigrante.
With this work, the debutant author provides an insider’s perspective that highlights the reasons that proppel many of today’s young Latin Americans, even those born wealthy, to also leave the south in favor of the north, and why in recent years many have ventured into other continents instead.
While Alvarez's novel is a work of fiction, it is a reflection of his own experiences and was inspired by the stories of the many immigrants with whom he has crossed paths. Also, although he preferred to write and publish his first work in English, his native language is Spanish (The Spanish version is titled, "Crónicas de un Nómada: Memorias de un Inmigrante"). Alvarez also speaks Greek and lives happily with his wife in the southern suburbs of Athens, Greece.
