8 Ball Chicks is a fascinating read. Sikes, a journalist by trade, follows a number of life stories, learning the different practices and lives of female gang members. I believe that part of the fascination is in the contrast between female and male gang members. Their fate is another question that Sikes slowly studies-- male gang members often end up in prison or dead early--and the differences and similarities for women are very intriguing. In addition to the individual look at these girls and women, the epilog and afterword of the book sum up all the stories very nicely.

A lok into the world of violent world of girl gangs. The author spent almost 2 years following the lives of three girl gangs in Los Angeles, San Antonio and Milwaukee.
