One of my favorite stories from childhood, however, I found it didn't keep most of the kids' attention when read aloud in a classroom setting (I tried 1st, 2nd and 4th graders), perhaps it's a bit too long, and maybe a bit slow moving for the children of television (it was written in 1938).
It could be seen as a prequel to "Bartholomew and the Oobleck", which seems much more popular in the classrooms these days.
