Jasmine Tremaine (Jazz) is a 700 year old witch with a penchant for trouble. She has the bad habit of using her magick for her own benefit, usually when she looses her temper, which is forbidden. As punishment, the High Council has banned her from their âwitch worldâ casting her into our mortal world. She lives in Los Angeles has the fun job of banishing curses for people. She also is a chauffer for All Creatures Limo Service. This world is inhabited with all kinds of magickal creatures, werewolves, elves, vampires etc. Speaking of vampires, her ex-lover Nick Gregory, who she hasn't seen in thirty years, needs her help. Over the past few years vampires have been steadily going missing. Nick wants Jazz to help him solve the mystery of the missing vampires. She doesn't want anything to do with Nick, because every time she helps him she winds up in jail.

50 Ways to Hex Your Lover is quite a silly, light-hearted read. There are quite a cast of eccentric secondary characters starting with Irma, the ghost who haunts Jazz's 1956 convertible Thunderbird sports car. Jazz also owns a pair of bunny slippers, Fluff and Puff who are indiscriminant when it comes to food. Then you have Dweezle, the owner of All Creatures Limo Service, who looks like a big green olive with three arms. There is quite a bit of world building but it all felt a bit shallow to me. The impression I came away with was only superficial.

Jazz's personality comes across as a little abrasive with some attitude. She does show a sweeter side sometimes, as well. She has been hurt by Nick in the past but she can't help herself for being attracted to him. She doesn't want to have these feelings for him and she tries to fight it. Nick just wants Jazz and has no qualms about letting her know. The story focuses mainly on Jazz. We only get into Nick's head a tiny amount. I would have liked for there to be more on the relationship between Nick and Jazz. The world building seemed to be more of the focus of this book, rather than the romance. Over all it wasn't a bad book, but after I finished it I didn't have the urge to shout down the rafters about how good it was either.

The title sounded interesting, and the man eating bunny slippers were a neat idea. That's about where things ended for me. I didn't even finish this book before I posted it, I did struggle through 3/4th of the book, might have missed a really cool ending, but I don't think so. If you like the Betsy vampire series this book will probably be up your alley, I prefer the Anita Blake series, if that's your preference as well, then I suggest you skip this one. Of course, I did find this book useful for getting another credit to get more books.

This book was a cute one -- but it did take about 170 pages or so for the plot to really start moving. The writer spent quite a bit of time on scene setting and character development, which was nice as a preliminary move towards creating a series but I thought the beginning moved a little slowly. Perseverance paid off, however, and I found Jazz and her vampire lover Nick to be engaging and entertaining. There were several lines that were laugh out loud funny.

Both the main and secondary characters are very fun, and they are intriguing enough to leave me, at least, curious about reading more. Plenty of magic, charm, and sex appeal in this little book!

This is the first book in the "Hex Your Lover" series. I had to give this book a second chance. The first 100 pages or so were a little boring for me, so I put it down and came back to it later. But I'm so glad I didn't give it up completely. Once you get past page 100 or so the story picks up and gets very good! I fell in love with the characters, the storyline was awesome, and this author is hilarious! I really enjoyed this book & look forward to reading more of this series.

Jazz Tremaine was banished from the Witches Counsel for not following the rules. Everytime she makes a mistake, more time is added to her banishment. Jazz acts like she doesn't care though as she go about eliminating curses and driving for a limo service. She has her very human room-mate who she adores, her bunny slippers that eat everything in sight, and Irma, the ghost who lives in her sports car. Things seemed to be going ok until he comes back to town. Nickolai and her go way back, like centuries, and he wants to hire her to help unravel the mystery of disappearing vampires. Nick is also a vampire and fears for his kind. Hooking back up with Jazz heats up the night, and they are soon hot on the case.

Very likeable characters, laugh-out loud lines, and a magical plot will have you flying through this one. Very imaginative and wonderful. I'll definitely be on the look-out for the next one!

What all the hater?

This book was well done. I liked it right away. I think the cover makes it seem more light-hearted than suggests. It has some heavy sex scenes were words like labia and other soft porn words are used. So not so light hearted in that sense. So if those scene offend you wont want to read this.

I thought the author did a great job of introducing us to Jazz and her past, then how Nick fit into all this. This isnt dark and mysterious like darker paranormals, I like the magic and the vampires, and the other creatures. I am going to keep reading the series.

Boring. Tepid dialogue. Poor to middling plot & writing. I like supernatural chick lit, so I was predisposed to like this book. In fact, I tried quite hard to like this book. It lacked charm & style and just came off very formulaic. I ended up giving in about half-way through and just flipping to the end to see what happened. It ended predictably. Also, I was irritated because the heroine was wishy washy about they vamp guy hero, claiming he'd done her wrong over and over again in centuries of history - but still unable to really stay away...and the chemistry wasn't really there between the two of them. Sadly, I liked her magic eat-everything-that-isn't-nailed-down toothy feral magical bunny slippers, Fluff & Puff, best of all the characters, but even that gag got old pretty quickly. The best bit was that instead of saying, "so mote it be" to finish a spell, the witch heroine says, "because I say so, d*mmmit!"

There, you've read all the good parts - now go pick another book.

Jasmine Tremaine, better known as Jazz to her friends, has been banished to the use of basic witch skills for the last 400 years because of stupid rules and her inability to control her temper. So she is stuck making a semi normal living eliminating curses and limo driving for some of the less desirable ghouls that are part of her world.

Life wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt for Nikolai, the rather hot vampire cop that should know better then to anger Jazz, but they just cant keep away from each other, even though everyone knows that witches and vampires dont mix.

Yet, after 40 years of being apart, Nick needs her help in solving a case of missing vampires and Jazz must face a horrible time in her past to help him that will either rip Jazz and Nick apart for ever or leave them to battle each other yet another day.

Very funny book with adorable characters like Norma, a ghost who cant leave Jazzs beloved car, and Fluff and Puff, real Bunny Slippers that seem to enjoy ripping into and eating anything within their reach but are afraid of heights.

If you can handle graphic and humor give this book a try.

I purchased this book because I thought it looked cute--the bright cover and silly title promised a nice light paranormal. I was not in the least disapointed.

Mainly the book follows Jazz, a witch and trouble maker who's out to destroy an enemy she thought long dead. As advertised, she is surrounded by a cast of whimsical characters that add humer to the story. Jazz herself has a biting and sarcastic personality that I found quite enjoyable.

Additionally, we meet Nick--an old lover of Jazz's who happens to be a vampire. I liked Nick a lot, but I really wished that we'd gotten into his head more or gotten to know him better. Since the book is primarily from Jazz's perspective and she's known him for some time, his personity--and in fact their entire relationship, is dealt with in a "oh, this is just typicaly Nick" manner. The romance was nice, but there wasn't enough of it, and not enough relationship building to back it up.

The plot is a bit slow at points, particularly in the beginning, but Wisdom makes up for it with stylish setting, magical elements, and laugh-out-load funniness. The book is light as promised, but also has a few thoughtful, serious moments that I really appreciated. Overall a worthwhile read.

I gave this book a chance (143 pages worth) but there are too many much better books to be read. I hated to just post it out, since I bought it new, but that's how disappointing it is. The only thing I can think of regarding the "praise" for the book on the back cover is that the authors got paid or never actually read the book. I mean, Yasmine Galenorn can write multiple circles around this author.

Although not horribly bad, the writing was just a bit irritating for some reason. The romance was a bit on the silly side -- in fact, the whole book bordered on silly. I don't pan many books, but this is one of those rare times. Ick.

A good funny start to the series.

Meet Jazz Tremaine, an exhiled witch with a knack for getting rid of curses, and a limo driver for all creatures of the night. Along with her long-time enemy/lover/vampire, Nick Gregory, they team up to find out who is killing off vampires in their city.

I liked this book and the extra characters, (Irma: a ghost bound to her car, and Fluff & Puff, her rabbid flesh hungry bunny slipers) Even though this book was a bit long--about 100 pages too long, it was still funny enough to hold my attention. Not only does she solve the vampire mystery, she also helps free Irma of the car, helps some college girls who turned a bunch of frat guys into pigs, and solves the mystery or a cursed (ahem) sex toy. I especially liked all the paranormal aspects, appreciated the mysteries, and enjoyed the sex scenes. Jazz has some major attitude and is not at all nieve or wimpy.

Even though this is not a keeper for me, its still a worthwhile read, if nothing else is worth a book credit through PBS. I will continue the series.

With 50 Ways To Hex Your Lover, new to me author Linda Wisdom introduces her series starring a feisty witch named Jazz and a vampire named Nick who have been in an on then off relationship for several hundred years. Unfortunately, most of it has not been good and the last time Jazz and Nick were together several decades ago, he had her arrested. Understandably, Jazz is a tad cranky when she and Nick cross paths. He is definitely the last person, dead or alive, she wants to deal with and I was given a very good idea just how angry she is with him when she conjures up fire balls and wooden stakes ready to end his existence mere seconds after laying eyes on him again. Jazz doesnt need any more trouble. Her temper and bad behavior have gotten her in trouble with the Witches Council and she was banished so she is trying to walk the straight and narrow. I was very intrigued to say the least.

Fortunately for the future of this story, Nick doesnt give up so easily and continues to try to persuade her to help him track down who is responsible for several vampires going missing. I liked Nick and his persistence. I liked that he and Jazz have an extensive history and they always manage to find their way back to one another. Jazz has a lot on her plate already and the last thing she wants is Nick back in her life. In addition to hiring her witchy services out to disarm curses and her job as a driver for a limousine company she has to deal with Irma, a chain smoking nag of a ghost, who haunts Jazzs T-Bird, her ghoul boss, Dweezil, who walks a very fine line between good and evil and her carnivorous bunny slippers, just to name a few. On top of that, her boss insists she is the only one who can drive his best customer (because he pays in gold bars), who also emits an odor so noxious that Jazz has to throw away the clothing she wears when she drives him. For Jazz, having Nick show up again after all these years is like the final straw for her. Of course, Jazz eventually agrees to help him, especially when she discovers that the most evil and foulest of creatures she thought had been destroyed in the 30s is actually still around.

I would have liked a little more background history with Jazz (and whatever names she used throughout the years) and Nick. How they met, more detail about her banishment and the relationships with her sister witches Stasi and Blair, how Nick became a vampire and his history with the Protectorate. There were a lot of references and inferences to these issues and a lot of jumping back and forth between past and present, but it left me with more questions that pulled me out of the story many times. Even still, these issues did not keep me from wanting to know more and connecting with the characters.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this was a good start to a series that has three more books and one short story. Jazz and Nick will return in the next book, Hex Appeal and Stasi and Blair will each get their story. I am hopeful more will be revealed and explained as we go forward. If you like your vampire heroes to be hot and your witch heroines to be smart, feisty and full of snarky attitude, with vibrant supporting characters throughout that threaten to take over the whole story, then I recommend 50 Ways To Hex Your Lover as a good place to start.

This book was a nice respite from all the serious books out there. It was refreshingly origional and fun. Jazz is a heroine who is quirky, fun, and just warped enough to love--and her world is filled with fascinating creatures, bunny slippers who'd give the vorpal rabbit a run for his money, and one sexy, hot vampire love interest.

The plot is a bit slow at points, particularly in the beginning, but Wisdom makes up for it with stylish setting, magical elements, and laugh-out-load funniness.

The book is light as promised, but also has a few thoughtful, serious moments that I really appreciated. Overall a worthwhile read.

I always say that three star reads are the ones that make give me the worst book slumps . . . I say this because Im always right its true. I know a lot of you are shaking your heads and thinking, why the hell would a book with a good rating give you a worst slump then, say, a one star read? Or a DNF? I can explain. A three star read is an okay book, a book that I liked but didnt love. Its a book that is so freaking hard to review because you cant find anything overly positive or negative to say, so you wind up saying, Its a good book. I liked it. You might, too. Not exactly an exciting book to review, because it wasnt very exciting to read, either.

With 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover, I had this problem. The funny thing is, Ive read this one before. I loved it years ago, and now that I read it again, I can see that Ive grown more critical and chooser as a reader. This isnt necessarily a bad thing, but it sure did give me a slump.

This book didnt wow me, because . . .

Ive seen it all before. Ive been reading for over half my life already (a feat since Im 19. Lol), and obsessing over romance for a few years less, so it can be hard to find authors unique to their genre. I usually dont have a problem when the writing is excellent enough to keep my attention, but in terms of 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover, it was only ordinary. Nothing new.
It left me feeling incomplete. The odd thing is, it didnt even end with a cliffhanger! (P.S. I hate cliffhangers.) Wisdom just didnt give me the closure I needed for some of the conflict she gave the story. FYI: If you write in a conflict, you need a solution. I know a lot of authors just leave it for the sequel, but it feels like she just forgot a few key elements.
I wasnt enamored with the main characters. I liked Jazz well enough, and Nick is . . . slowly growing on me, but none of them were that interesting. Jazz seemed like this feisty, strong character that wouldnt allow anybody to walk all over her, but anytime Nick is around her vag makes all the decision and she ends up hurt. WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME? YOU DONT NEED HIM AND ITS ANNOYING AS FUCK TO WATCH HIM TREAT YOU TERRIBLY. Wisdom winds up redeeming Nicks character a bit at the end, but Im still not happy with him. Perhaps hell grow up, in the next book, but Im not counting on it.
The two things that saved this book for me were the cute, adorable, man-eating slippers, Fluff and Puff (where do I find some? Anybody know?), and the sex is deliciously hot. For all Nick and Jazzs fault, they make yummy whoopee. ;)

All-in-all not a terribly enthusiastic read, but Ive picked up the next book in the series in the hopes that it redeems the Hex series for me.
