This book is the most intense, tension-building, suspenseful book that I have read in recent memory. I have read most of the books written by Greg Iles and this has to be the best.
I could not bear to put the book down so even though it is a few more than 400 pages, I read it in 24 hours even while getting a few hours of sleep in the middle. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a thrilling page-turner.

I've never seen an author give this much depth and believability to his characters. Greg Iles has ruined me for reading less talented authors. Fabulous story.

This book was made into the movie, "Trapped" and republished under that same name. A New York Times bestseller for a reason, 24 Hours/Trapped is a tension-building movie and an even better book.

I have been so impressed with a book. 24 Hours by Greg Iles was an intense thriller that I couldn't put down. There is absolutely now way I could put this book down once I started reading it on a 2 hour airplane ride. The storyline carried the characters through to the very, heart stopping end. Now that I think about the book again, it really did cover a 24 hours period.
The characters were intense. Parts of the storyline were complex, but not overly so. A great, quick read. I have read a lot of thrillers, but the first time I read this book, my experience could never be repeated. It was a very intense, exciting book, with a great ending.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys being on the edge of their airplane seat.

Another great book by Greg Iles. Kept me awake too many nights. His style of writing is unsurpassed and his method of drawing one in to the suspense of the moment tops all.

have you ever fell asleep reading and couldn't wait to get up reading? This is definitely the book for you!! It was the most suspenseful book to say the least!! It is definitely a page turner!!
This book had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. There are a few brief scenes of the sexual nature I didn't like, I just skipped through them and b/c of that I couldn't give this a "5 stars" rating. ~But, with that aside I found this to be a good "lay by the pool" book.
Very good book

From the very first line of the book I was hooked. This is a captivating book, with a stroryline like no other. It's one of those books that takes you on a ride (albeit disturbing), and there is no way for you to guess the ending. I am now going to look for other books written by Greg Iles.

Very good - just like all of Greg Iles books!
Great book
24 hours-that's how long it takes a madman to pull off the perfect crime. He's done it before, hell do it again, and no one can stop him.
But this time, he's just picked the wrong family to terrorize. Because Will and Karen Jennings aren't going to watch helplessly as he victimizes them. And they aren't going to let him get away with it. They're going to fight back.

This book kept me reading all the way! Very literary in his style of writing a thriller, which made it all the more enjoyable.
Very exciting book, Give yourself plenty of time for the end, last few chapters are page turners and you can't put it down.
All Greg Iles books capture the imagination and are hard to put down. 24 hours doesn't disappoint.

Very interesting book. I can't put it down.
Definitely well written; this one kept me reading it until I was finished.
I really enjoyed this book. I've read nearly all of Greg Iles' books and have loved each of them more. Very suspenseful and action-packed - keeps you on your toes.
This book is in excellent condition, however, pages 1-40 came out in a big chunk. So all the pages are still there, but 1-40 are still together, but detached from the book.
gripping, I couldn't put this down and had it read in 3 days
A real thriller--this book pulls you in and does not let go until the end!

A real page-turner. Iles delievers again with both the heroics and depravity of the human condition.

Dr. Will Jennings is attending the annual physician's conference when he is approached by a woman with a gun. She tells him that his six-year-old daughter has been kidnapped and his wife is being held at their home by Joe Hickey. Joe wants money and has a plan to get that money that has not failed him yet. He will check in with the woman every half hour. If Will or his wife, Karen, do not cooperate, their daughter will be killed. Joe knows this is the perfect plan. He has used it successfully several times and none of his victims have ever talked to the police. But this is the first time he has met Will and Karen Jennings.
Edge of your seat suspense. I was totally engrossed in this story and didn't know how the Jennings were going to get their daughter back. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

24 Hours - that's how long it takes a madman to pull off the perfect crime but this time he picked the wrong family. Excellent book with a plot that keeps you wanting to read more. I'd real another Greg Iles book.
Engrossing story. Excellent character development. There was a movie based on this book called "Trapped" with Kevin Bacon (Joe Hickey), Courtney Love (Cheryl), Charlize Theron (Karen), Stuart Townsend (Will), and Dakota Fanning (Abby).
As close to family fare as a kidnapper-rapist-extortionist thriller can get, Iles's (The Quiet Game) latest brilliantly plotted tale walks the razor's edge between cinematic excess and bone-chilling suspense. Joe Hickey is a Southern redneck with an Ivy League talent for evil. He has trained his grossly huge, mentally challenged cousin, Huey, and his gorgeous, exotic-dancer, live-in lover, Cheryl, to work with him as part of a tightly controlled kidnap/extortion squad targeting Mississippi physicians' families while the doctors are off at conferences. But he hits a snag when Dr. Will Jennings, his wife, Karen, and their five-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Abby, prove as resourceful solo as they are formidable in tandem. Joe grabs Abby, turning her over to Huey, who drives her off to a remote forest cabin near Jackson; meanwhile, Joe stays behind to terrorize Karen in the Jennings home. Cheryl gets her hooks into the third family member by vamping her way into Will's hotel room in Biloxi, where Will receives a phone call and ransom demand from Joe, who stipulates delivery in 24 hours. It's a long, horrific night for all as Iles pits each of the captives against their captors in riveting battles of will. The well-rounded characters are trademark Iles, the plot runs speed-skating smooth and occasional near-gooey bits of dialogue are offset by nasty surprises and perfectly timed terror. The one-on-one conflicts punch up the pace, and a perfect Mississippi setting, a spot-on sendup of FBI assistance and a hair-raising finale complete the package.

From the jacket: "24 Hours - that's how long it takes a madman to pull off the perfect crime. He's done it before, he'll do it again, and no one can stop him.

They're going to fight back."
I discovered Greg Iles last year when I read Turning Angel. He is another Mississippi writer of fast paced thrillers. I think it is safe to say if you enjoy John Grisham you will also enjoy Greg Iles. 24 is not his best but it was a fun read. It held my attention and had me turning the pages pretty fast toward the end. If you have not read anything by Iles I do not recommend you read this first. Start with Turning Angel or The Quiet Game.
