....and just like that, there's only 6 more weeks left in 2021.  Good grief!

That said, here is the 2022 Historical Fiction Challenge!

It begins on January 1, 2022 and ends on December 31, 2022.  May the odds be ever in your favor!

There are 3 levels to choose from:

"Let's See How It Goes" - Read 6 books

"I'm Mildly Invested In This"  - Read 10 books

"FOR HONOR AND GLORY!" - Read 15 books

1.  Read a HF novella

2. Read a book set in a city you'd like to visit

3.  Read a book set before 1000 AD

4.  Read a book that's been on your TBR list for at least 5 years

5.  Read a book with a red cover

6.  Read a book featuring a prison or prisoner

7.  Read a book with a castle or church on the cover

8.  Read a book released in 2022

9.  Read a book with a royal title in the book title (king, princess, tsar, emperor, etc...)

10.  Read a book with a country in the title

11.  Read a book where a real life person is featured

12.  Read a book that includes a map

13.  Read a book with a title that is written in white

14.  Read a historical mystery set between 1400 - 1700

15.  Read a book that features a party or ball

BONUS

It's the Year of the Tiger! Read a book that features a tiger or has a tiger on the cover.

For the rebels in our group, pick any level and read any HF book you want :)

I'm trying to find some books that match these categories. Are there any websites that you guys use that will help?  I don't usually read a lot of historical fiction so sorta new to this genre. I use fantastic fiction and goodreads right now. Thanks!

Hi Karen,

I usually use Goidreads and this forum to find books to fit categories. If you go to the Historical Fiction Table of Contents in this forum you'll see past challenges and what books members used for them.

As always, feel free to ask for suggestions for specific prompts. You'll end up with way too many ð

Anyone have any ideas for the HF Novella category?  I read Bridge of Sighs: A Short Story of the Plague by Laura Morelli, but it was definitely a short (very short) story.

Karen, sorry for the very delayed response, but another idea is to read through others' lists in the HF Challenge Lists Only thread.  People fill in their categories with the names of the books they've read, and some of us add ideas we have for the categories.  I've found a lot of books that way in past challenges.  Welcome!  I'm glad you are joining us this year!

Anybody read The Undertaker's Assistant by Amanda Skenandore?  I'm trying so hard to read it for a city you would like to visit category but I'm having a very hard time getting into it. Im already on page 80 and it still hasn't grabbed my attention. Does it get better?

Hi Shelley,

Diana Gabaldon and Laurie R. King wrote some novellas and short stories for their series. I don't know if you've read any of their books.

Karen - I have not read it, but if you aren't enjoying it then you should find something else.  What city is it based in?  Maybe we can offer different books?

An understandable dilemma.  I hope it gets better!
