We have a New Cozy Mystery Challenge for 2021. Use this topic to ask questions and discuss cozies you are reading. Challenge yourself to read as many as you can in each category. A few I have carried over from last year

Read as many as you can for each topic

Some of our favorites from last year and some new ones

  1. Nice to Meet Your- Read a cozy by a new to you author (many cozy authors write under several names and that is okay to use one of those).
  2. Next in Line -- Read the next book in a series you have started.
  3. New Series- Read a new to you cozy series.
  4. Paranormal - Read a paranormal cozy (ghost, witches, psychics, vampires, demons, werewolves etc)
  5. Senior Citzen - Read a cozy that has a senior citizen as a prominate character (does not have to be main character)
  6. Pets -- Read a cozy that has a pet on the cover or in the story line. (dog, cat, rabbit, pot bellied pig etc)
  7. Restaurant/Bakery - Read a Cozy that is set in Restaurant or Bakery
  8. Hobby  - Read a cozy that features someone's hobby (crafts, hiking, games etc)
  9. Worldwide - Read a cozy that is not set in the USA.
  10. Building - Read a cozy that has a building on cover (house, library, castle etc)
  11. Read a cozy with Red,white or blue on cover
  12. Make Up Your own Category.

Link to mine   Lynn's 2022 Cozy Mystery Challenge

Still thinking about what category I want to add for my choice.......have to look at present categories and cozies on my TBR to choose something.  

The one that will be the most challenging for me is the Worldwide one.  Sometimes I read one in Ireland.  I'll have to keep my eyes open for some.  I think I have two on my TBR now.

I usually try to read at least five for each category.  This year I doubled that plus some in some of the categories..........

I've decided to make my own category Cozies published before 2010.  I have several that will fit all in one series.  That will help shorten my next in line category as they will all fit there.

No problem Heidi.  I'll share....I almost stole Alice Amish ideal but the MC character in these books is Mennonite so I'd have to use Amish/Mennonite.  Using the date ideal opens up to other older books also

Linda R there are some very good paranormal cozies our there that are good stories. I recommend some of the series by Nancy Warren. The Vampire Knitting Club is very good.

I will be boring and use the same category I use every year - murderless mystery! I read cozies for the puzzle and for the way you get to have a series with the same familiar characters, but everyday people just DON'T run across murders, certainly not multiple murders! But I have several Guideposts mystery series, where the main character solves mysteries other than murder, and they go in this category.

Just signed up for the 2022 cozies.  Will think a while before deciding on the last category.  The paranormal will be hardest for me, I think.

I think my hardest category may be new-to-me cozy writer. I'm picky about cozies, and I don't finish ones I dislike, so I'll have to find a good series I don't know yet. Do people have suggestions for good series that are fairly new?

Good question, Melissa! I'm thinking yes because I can't think of any counterexamples, but I might be wrong - in particular, maybe you could have a series with a retired professional (policeman or whatever)? What do other people think?

I just finished On Thin Icing by ellie Alexander. Very good series.Well  written. Loved the setting in Oregon woods. Good recipes too.

I started a new series but also a new author to me.

  Scene of the Grime (Grime Solvers, Bk 1) Suzanne Price   

I have books 2 and 3 to read also.  Not my favorite series but I'll finish the ones I have.
