Exactly what I was looking for! This book has everything you need to know for....everything! And like the other review said..."It's not botany,just gardening." I borrowed this book from the library and had to own it. This is not a one-time read. It's a forever-gardening reference. My neighbor and my tomatos had what looked like rotton bottoms. We didn't know what to do. The book showed a picure of the very same thing and said it was a lack of calcium and to mix crushed eggshells in the compost. Sure enough,problem solved!

A gorgeous book! It doesn't go into depth. (Hey, it's "Reader's Digest" -- what do you expect?) If you want science, biology, botany, or anything terribly detailed, look elsewhere. If you want light, readable, helpful information inside a book that's beautiful to behold, this is a worthwhile purchase.

This is a very good reference book for beginning gardeners whether you are interested in flower beds or vegetable growing. I especially like the parts on preparing the soil.
