The author's strong Christian bias makes this book nearly completely worthless for anyone looking for a more secular curriculum.

Very helpful book, especially for new homeschoolers who aren't sure which method, let alone curriculum, that they'll use. I don't recall a Christian bias, but it would still be a valuable read to help you get started in homeschooling, even if you want to avoid religious curriculua.

I always recommend for new homeschoolers to find a copy of this book, now updated as 101 Top Homeschool Picks. She takes the first few chapters to walk you through questions of your goals and dreams for your homeschool- what is important to you and your hubby may not be to me. Then she asks you about your child/ren's learning styles and issues as well as your teaching style. She has you graph your answers and points you toward a style of curriculum that will fit for YOU. This is important because every home is different, what one moms loves and swears by may not work at all for you. This is a vital process for a mom and dad to go through to maximize your enjoyment, contentment and confidence homeschooling.
