Excerpts from previously published books by famous and not so famous authors (but all are accomplished writers) that cover an array of Latin American aspects. The 'essays' are in roughly geographical groupings and vary from a description of the downfall of the Inca under an invasion of rascals that Ferdinand and Isabella were glad to be free of after the reconquista succeeded in 1492 to contemporary (1930s) life. Selections include descriptions of flora and fauna. Through translation into English, the writings of Latin Americans themselves are emphasized.
