Simone Sheridan has been avoiding the divorce papers on her kitchen table, but almost simultaneous surprise visits from her brother-in-law, Martin, and a dangerous colleague from her secret past life with the CIA black ops force her on the run, with her family in tow. It seems that somebody is tracking down the now-dispersed D9 group and killing its members.^B In the process of running all over the country while trying to figure out what is going on, Simone finally has to level with her husband, Reece, about her past, and he has to contend with the new, cautious etiquette of planning for a future with someone he still loves but who has signed divorce papers. Amid the nonstop action, which includes chapters set in Nicaragua, where Isabella Ramirez tries to avenge her father's death and reestablish power in his name, Reece and Simone finally come to know each other and recommit. The ending is as inevitable as surprising in this one-sitting read. Mary K. Chelton
